Kyoto Fall Madness

Dec 15, 2007 09:24

Ack, I've been meaning to post these Kyoto pictures forever but I've just been putting it off because I couldn't decide which pics to put up out of the 200 or so I took. Luckily, I finally managed to narrow it down a bit. Although I don't think these pictures can actually represent how unbelievably crowded it was in Kyoto when we were there.

These pictures were taken at Tofukuji temple which is the most famous place for fall leaf viewing. Of course because of that it was also so crowded you had to push if you wanted to get anywhere. We also saw at least two Japanese men get angry and throw things. That was some crowd.

The famous bridge -

More leaves -

I loved this rock garden! The rocks totally look like huge crinoid fossils.

The next place we went was Fushimi Inari Shrine, home of the fox God. I talked about our adventures there over in this post.

Part of the maze of torii (It really was creepy)-

The wishing boards were shaped like foxes and people had drawn little fox faces!

Next we went to Kyomizudera Temple where we got a free tour by a Chinese University student. It was right at sunset so everything looked really amazing.

That same night we went to a light-up of Kodaiji temple that was absolutely amazing! Unfortunately, my camera ran out of batteries so I didn't get many pictures. This is the light show that was in the Zen rock garden - (Now that was really like a drug trip...)

More pretty trees (there was a full moon that night) -

The next day we went to Ginkakuji (the silver pavilion) where the leaves were absolutely beautiful -

And the gold pavilion -

Kyoto station was really decked out, too. They had a huge Christmas tree where people could get their pictures taken. daiki_dansu and I couldn't resist.

And last, just for fun, some katsu curry -

Now I have to get ready for the school Christmas program. I can only pray it goes better than the dress rehearsal did yesterday. XD
