Winter Adventures

Have been very bad about updating since I came back, but I am back to London and (unfortunately) back to work. I did get my visa application submitted in the end after a lot of trials including finding out there was a new form at the very last second and then running out of ink when I tried to print it out. But at least that's all over now! Just have to wait to hear back. I'm thinking it should take about a month.

I have had a lot of fun adventures since coming back though. The weekend before last takadainmate and I went to the Hunterian Museum. I had been wanting to go for a really long time after hearing about their amazing and creepy specimen collection, and it definitely didn't disappoint. There were all sorts of examples of strange medical phenomenon and really gross things that I probably could have done without seeing.

Then on Sunday it was a really pretty day so I went back to Highgate Cemetery. I had been there once before with gnine and her parents and was amazed at the sheer number of angel statuary. XD This time I took my new camera so I got some slightly better pictures. The sunshine was very helpful in that regard as well.

Highgate is exactly the kind of creepy overgrown Victorian style cemetery that I adore. It's also used as the setting for lots of books and movies.

A creepy overgrown grave -

The sleeping angel -

The grave of a famous Victorian boxer, Thomas Sayers. Apparently his dog was heartbroken when he died.

A 300 year old tree called the Cedar of Lebanon -

The tree overlooks the Circle of Lebanon, which was apparently the most popular (and expensive) place to be buried.

The grave of a famous menagerist -

Some random monuments -

Part of Egyptian Avenue, another popular burial place.

And, of course, an angel with a basket!

We also got to go inside the catacombs, which they've only recently opened to the public. Couldn't see much, but some of the monuments seemed to be in very good condition.

While I was home, I also wrote my first Yuletide fic, which was Pandora Hearts, Oz/Gil friendship. It's over here. I was also lucky enough to receive two lovely Yuletide fics, one for Vassalord, and one for Pandora Hearts!
