Happy Friday.
Here's the camp rundown:
1) I won't be going to Alaska. ACCESS DENIED. (Boo. Their loss, yo.)
2) I interviewed with Maine Wednesday, and it was the best job interview I've ever had. The assistant director and I really just CLICKED. She got to the end of the interview, and said, "Okay. So. Basically, I adore you. I think you're fantastic, I think we'd be incredibly lucky to have you, and if your references check out, then the job is yours if you want it." She got off the phone with me, and immediately called Bounce and then Sonja. The next day, I had the official job offer in my inbox. Win.
3) I interviewed with Washington last night. I think it went pretty well. She seemed pleasant enough, and I made her laugh a few times. I tried to be pleasant and charming. I should hear from them as soon as they get the rest of my references. Bounce said she was going to call Smokey (the director), as they're good friends, and bypass the reference form entirely. Mary Ann and Sonja are working on the reference forms.
Maine
Pros
1) It pays pretty well. 2100, plus a 250 travel stipend, which should cover the entire cost of my ticket up there, actually.
2) It'd be something totally different. It's a private Jewish camp, non-practicing, but they do have a blessing-over-the-candles-with-challah-bread thing every Friday night, which sounds really lovely. I like Judaism, I would be down with that.
3) I really connected with Molly, the A.D. She made me feel like I would be welcomed warmly, and appreciated.
4) I'd be living in ONE cabin all summer. None of this moving around shit. This is a very traditional camp, where the kids show up with like, trunks and shit, and stay all summer.
5) I'd love to see Maine. Looove to see it.
6) Great weather.
7) The uniform fee is very small, and I get like 3 shirts and a hoodie. Score. I'd be sad if I didn't have a camp hoodie for this summer.
Cons
1) I wouldn't have supervisor experience.
2) I'd be sharing the craft house with a BUNCH of other crafts people. This could be amazing, or it could suck.
3) I don't know how much freedom I'd get to experience other things at camp. Molly said that if I wanted to organize, say, a game of Capture the Flag, then I could talk to the nice guys who do events there. This is one of those wait-and-see things.
4) I have to sleep in the same cabin as the kids. The same kids, all summer. I haven't decided if the same-kids thing is a pro or a con. Guess it depends on the kids, ja?
Washington
Pros
1) Washington is stunningly beautiful.
2) Familiar turf, since it's a Girl Scout camp.
3) Potential leadership experience, if they hire me as a UL.
4) I could see and do lots of things.
5) Several breaks, including a 4-day break.
6) Far away from my parents.
7) Not sure how it pays yet, but the cost to get out there isn't bad. Not much more than Maine would be.
8) Keyauwee people have been there--the director is from Keyauwee, originally--and loved it.
Cons
1) I didn't feel as warm-and-fuzzy interviewing last night as I did with Molly.
2) The making-of-the-schedules sounded squirrelly.
3) Probably won't make as much money comparatively.
4) No travel stipend.
Merf. I don't know where I want to go.
