That is, fixed phone. I strung a new wire between the input jack into the unit, and the one on the other side of the slider, connected everything up, and got a dial tone! Yes, I sure did, and even though I've not check out the rest of the outlets, the DSL is connected, so it works, however I'm not getting anything now, at least from the bedroom, but the DSL connection looks flaky though. When I tried to see if I had a working phone in the bedroom, I got a busy signal, and the modem rebooted, then I tried again, and got a scratchy sound, modem lost connection, and now, nothing at all.
So gotta figure that out as I hope I don't have a bad DSL filter. This filter simply splits the lower frequency of telephony from the higher frequency of DSL, thus they either filter out the high frequency hash in one's phone, or vice versa (as what one would find in the modem itself). This allows both to exist on the same pair of copper wires.
Been dinking around and so far, sporadic dial tone, hell, even cleared out a bunch of messages I had on my land line voice mail too.
Now, I don't have a dial tone got a busy signal, then nothing at all. I've taken out the fax machine, and my phone on my desk from the loop, nothing, now I get a crackling noise from the cordless phone. And when I turn on the speakerphone, the model loses its connection, so I wonder if there is a short still somewhere, or a filter is bad.
Either way, I'm getting there, though I will have to pull out the printer and check to ensure the connections at the jack behind it are OK as it'll also affect the old skool trimline.
But so far, the cordless phone, which is by the front door, and the frontline phone for the entire apartment is not grabbing a dial tone, outside of sporadic moments, so it's the first line check and I've found some loose connections at the other two jacks, so I need to ensure all's tight everywhere now.
But DSL connection comes back every time I hang up the phone.
So if y'all excuse me, time I resume with diagnosing this.
