A little stroll from yesterday and other things

Nov 20, 2011 10:15

Decided to get out and about for a bit in the cold, but mostly sunshiny day late afternoon but well before dark when I began.

The idea was to capture some photos of fall, or what's left of it anyway before everything looks like the dead of winter, if it hasn't in some areas already and to get a photo for a CD project I'm finishing up.

Other than redoing one track, an MP3 download that I added much too much bass to and really needs to be redone, the CD is finished outside of the artwork.

This is the street for the cover and I'll posterize it after making it then B&W and do a gray overlay over it to make it very pale for the back of the case and perhaps the CD itself with the playlist and title on the CD itself. This was a residential street, about 2 blocks east of Broadway. The CD? Baker Street Revisited.

But first here is evidence of our fall's current status. This was taken just up from my place and there are pockets where leaves are piled up in the corners, along curbs etc as well as sidewalks though some areas have been cleaned up of all the fallen leaves, especially now that the trees in many areas have lost all their leaves.

At Thomas Street Park.

This is a series of trees next to the future light rail station site, Dick's Drive In is across Broadway. These trees as you see here have lost all their leaves and the area below has been cleared of the fallen leaves

This is Broadway a little later, the intersection is Thomas and Broadway looking NE. Notice the Christmas lights up already.

This is the Broadway Market, where the QFC is located, a grocery store and Urban Outfitters is next door in the same complex, notice the lights on the trees out front and the LED starts on the light poles.

And with that, it was time I headed inside and get what I needed for last night's dinner. It was a variation of a recipe I copied from kitchenbeard back in 2009, Sweet Fennel Sausage with Herb Sauce over Bow Ties.

Then came out to it dark and on the way home, caught this photo of the corner of Summit and Thomas St's 2 blocks up from my place was this building with 3 trees done up in white LED lights.

The businesses are, the Thomas Street Market, a small coffee shop and the Thomas St Bistro on the right facing Thomas St with apartments above.

Sausage with Herb Sauce over Bow Ties
The main difference was I could not find sweet fennel sausage so used sweet Italian sausage (in bulk on a saran wrapped tray in the meat section) and got the pancetta from the Deli counter, sliced not terribly thin
I ended up with 2 huge pink heirloom tomatoes with a savory aftertaste and a package of fresh Sage instead of a bunch of Parsley, Basil and Sage, just the Sage and used dried Basil I had on hand.
Did get some crumbled goat cheese and a box of bow tie pasta (farfalla) and called it good.

You brown the meat/sausage in a dutch oven with olive oil or a deep skillet (I used my 11" chicken fryer pan) until the fat has rendered out and the meat browned, the recipe didn't say to drain the fat off, but I did, rough chop the tomatoes and toss into pan with meat, add Sauvignon Blanc but I used Pino Noir instead as that's what I had on hand
For the herb sauce, the other tomato was rough chopped and tossed into the food processor with cloves of garlic, some olive oil and the fresh Sage, which I used the entire packet, pulling the leaves off the stems and whizzed until it made a paste, though mine was thinner than it may have needed to be and add to pan.

Once reduced some and the pasta cooked and drained, you serve the sauce over the pasta, adding the goat cheese to the top and I added some parm cheese as well (optional),only needing to add pepper to it as the flavors were intense and no salt was necessary, thanks to the sausage and the pancetta.

OMG, it's soo good, but rich tasting and filling. I have enough to either have for dinner or lunch today. Sadly, no photos of this dish to share. Oh well.

Spent the evening scanning photos, wash a bunch of dishes so I could cook and briefly talked to Mom. I have to call my oldest sis today to verify that my recipe for spinach and artichoke casserole is the none doubled recipe as I put dbl recipe? at the bottom in ink so am not sure. Cause if it is the standard recipe, I'll need to double it and have Mom gather the stuff for me so that's one less thing to carry down.

Today, have had breakfast, laundry is about done (the dryer should have finished) and brought up my tree to assemble and get the lights on so I can take that back down to my storage locker. I'll begin putting up the ornaments the week after this.

I'll also wash more dishes and pick up the place and scan more photos and finish what I may not have worked up from my stash and find a few others from my photos to add and begin making the slide shows, both in Power Point and in Windows Media Player so I'm covered either way, the slide shows I won't do today but get closer to doing them in any event. I may make a small test run to see how it's done and to ensure it works before I go ahead and do the full thing.

Today is another mostly sunny day, right now,  it's 32F and very frosty as even the cars have white frost on them. It got down to around 30 last night. Weather wise, mostly went and or cloudy all week with temps in the 40's with Wed through Friday being in the low 40's or so and with periods of rain or showers.

And so with that, time I get a move on!

seasons, walk, cooking, holidays, neighborhood
