My Farscape Post

Apr 16, 2009 11:02

I was going to jot down a few thoughts on sebaceanbabe's birthday post, but it got...longer than I was anticipating. It's a bit rambly and all over the place, I apologize for that, since I have to flee to pick up my pops at the airport in a few, so he can come visit with my boys, who have a full schedule of baseball and soccer, which they wanted to show off. D'Argo and John are great. I've finally seen Season One's finale and the whole "How you doing?" "I've gotta pee," and the insta-giggles they both got was awesome (so much of a change from the beginning of their relationship, or even when they agreed not to be enemies in the bounty-the-dog hunter episode).

And John, once again, cracking up when Crais entered the ship with Rygel. Classic! I really love that quality of...when all else fails...it's such a human reaction and I love that it's been going on the whole time, and from your comments, it isn't going anywhere. It truly is one of my favorite Crichton-isms.

Also, if you like Crichton's Alpha-Male act and inappropriate laughter, then I feel you are going to love the rest of the series. Because... there's only going to be more of that.

Okay, that is entirely made out of win, and I'm very, very excited to moove on to Season Two. So much so that I bought and uploaded into my i-pod. It's been so long since I've had a show to work out to at the gym, I'm really looking forward to it (once I saw i-tunes has them all...no need to rent the discs, when I can buy them to the i-pod and it'll have my undivided attention as I strive to get back into shape...*sigh*).

Crichton's accents are indeed cringeworthy, but kind of amusing at the same time.

I'm sad to hear about Stark, since I really loved their connection in the cell in the following gun fight.

Hee, I'm so NOT a leather fan, but as I said, I wasn't exactly complaining...

Aeryn and Pilot

Oh, and YES, they totally had me going in their goodbyes in the season finale. A muppet, damnit! A muppet!

Rygel never, ever, wins me over. I mean, I don't straight out hate him, but I'm not a fan. But Pilot is GREAT. He even gets a back story ep, season two's "The Way We Weren't" which is a favorite ep for a lot of fans. (I like it a lot, but I'm a little too much of a Crichton fan for it to be my favorite -- if Crichton's not tortured and at least a little crazy it's not quite a favorite.)

Here, have a totally random, unimportant, out of context season three Crichton/D'Argo as BadAss BFFs scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGjB_1lzbOw&feature=related

Yay!

Do you see now why Farscape is hard to recommend? It's, like, brilliant at doing things I LOVED, but it's got muppets and body paint and fart jokes and really, really, really bad science, and occasional bad boring episodes on planets of blue people or planets of tribal people dressed in purple nylon vests. But when it's awesome it's really awesome.

Me too. I like to think of that Stark as the real Stark, and this other guy's just a random character who happens to look like Stark and have all his characteristics. Don't worry though, he doesn't show up for awhile.

I'm glad you like it. Some people don't like that he does get so loud and inappropriate when backed into a corner. (And especially in season two.) I kind of like it as character development, in that he starts to lose any inhibitions after all that happens to him. He'll say what he pleases and react how the hell he wants to, and he'll find the humor in everything, because otherwise he'd just go, well, crazier. Plus, it's not like D'Argo and Rygel don't just do and say and act exactly how they please, too, you know? Crichton's kind of a loud, obnoxious dick for awhile (season two), because he's just on a massive PTSD FLAIL (and, you know, the psychological torture has just begun).

Okay, so what do you think of Aeryn? I kind of LOVE HER MASSIVELY.

Hee, with the "Who's your daddy." Yeah, Crichton looks...way more with the batshit badass there than in the semi-soft place I have him now.

Rygel can make me laugh, despite myself, though I'm not a huge fan. I do like that Crichton reacted the way he did in "Human Reaction," even though he's not much of a fan, either. Though, I also liked his dressing-down in the finale, because...so well deserved.

Yes, totally, I'm trying to get folks to come along with me for the ride, but it's a hard sell.

Okay, I completely and totally would marry this. As I said, I LOVE the "fall back to humor" reaction, and even the inappropriate laughter (LOVE) and comments (well deserved, I think). I cannot STAND folks without some semblance of humor, especially in the face of so much despair. I think humor is one of THE THINGS that makes us all human and it saddens me when folks seem to have no semblance of it. Not to get too much TMI, but it's totally what got me through my mom's death, what with hanging with my sibs and dad in the horrible aftermath, and realizing that you CAN still laugh, as incredible as it seemed at the time.

Anyway, on that depressing note:

Aeryn is LOVE. I adore her. She's absolutely everything I'd ever want to be, if I was a kickass hero-type. She was so painfully alone and actually had to make the decision that none of them had had yet (I guess the blue chick had it later with the commune episode) of whether to "go back home," but realized that it was no longer her home and she was just as alone and stranded as the rest of the sorry lot. Only to find her home with them...she's heartbreaking, but without giving up being all badass. I'm really, really digging her. A. Lot.

I'm a huge believer in humor to ease grief. Particularly when it's totally inappropriate Wrong!Bad!Humor that only you and the other grieving people would be okay with. J's this way too, so we often end up going with the dark funny when we're upset or even fighting or whatever.

Yeah, she's awesome. She's full of the least amount of crap of anyone on the show, and yet she's so emotionally stunted. I can't decide if I like her arc or Crichton's better, but hers is much more subtle.

So, uh, watched anymore?

Yes, I'm bored.

Heh.

My answer should totally be a resounding yes, since I plugged my i-pod in last night before going to bed, then actually went to the gym today (go me!), but, sadly, apparently, I had checked the box to only upload television shows that I had marked and I hadn't marked the Farscape ones. Boo!

So, I ended up rewatching an old episode of Freaks and Geeks and sad, so sad...
