So, over the past month I've been reccing Sky High fic for
crack_van (those recs are being collected
here, as well as the
fandom overview I wrote). This post is a few other things that I couldn't/didn't include over there. Unless noted otherwise, you can basically assume these are all G/PG/PG-13/Teen-ish gen, of normal story length, and complete.
Seven Is An Even Number part 1,
part 2,
part 3, and
part 4 by
starandrea - This is an abandoned WIP, but it's totally worth reading. It accurately gets the voices of pretty much all the characters, so that I could hear them talking, all of them. It's just an exploration of what comes next after the movie, everyone getting used to their friendships and powers, and it's low-key but nicely detailed. This was the story I really wanted to rec when I started this project, and I was all sad to learn that
crack_van doesn't take WIPs.
The Rainbow League by
formerlydf - A funny look at everyone's color-coded clothing.
Like Ghosts In The Snow part 1,
part 2, and
part 3 by
notuslethe - This story is something that I feel weird for enjoying, as despite the author's protestations the OFC basically is a Mary Sue, and it totally undoes everything the movie sets up (which is sorta cool, sorta annoying), and it fizzles out in the end, but I actually did like it while I was reading it. It's about Warren and his parents and stuff.
Primary Colors, or, The Soul Of A Poet by
queenitsy - More on color coding. What can I say, it's cute.
Supinity by
foggynite - This is just a little scene, more of an out-take than a fic, but I like the voices in it.
Paper Lantern by Closet Skeleton - I shouldn't rec this, because I only read the first half of it and then had to stop. See, I don't like Will/Warren, and I'm psychologically incapable of reading Sky High smut, apparently.... But in the part I did read there was one scenario that was really hot, even if I don't quite believe it for these characters. I guess I am just a hussy.
I'll be making more rec posts for Sky High later on.

It would be fun if more good authors wrote fic in this fandom. I actually *shudder* went to fanfiction.net to look for fic, because I decided I should be all thorough and read anything that might have some promise. I cannot even begin to tell you the piles of dreck I had to wade through on that site. Ugh. Ick. I have suffered to serve you, fandom! *shakes tiny fist*
Is it too much to ask that adults write fic for this movie, people who have a good grasp of character and plot, people who want to explore real stories and emotions, people who know how to use sentences and paragraphs? People who are interested in something other than just having their Mary Sue hook up with Warren?
There's so much you could explore! For instance, we saw Will tell his parents that he was made a sidekick: what about the others? How did Layla's superhero mother take it? Zach's (superhero?sidekick?) father? Ethan and Magenta's families? And worldbuilding: where do all these secret sanctums and villains' lairs and flying schools come from? Are there special construction companies that cater to superpowered needs? How much oversight does the federal government really have over Sky High? You could even get me to read smut if you wrote Gwen/Penny/Penny(/Penny/Penny/Penny...). Will no one think of the clonecest (it thinks of you itself)? (No, I'm serious. That girl has the most porno power in the whole school. Why did I not see anyone utilizing it in fic? They even hint at it in the movie, dudes.)
Right. Heh. I should shut up and go revise my own fic and I will post more recs later.
