Creative Writing Slam

Jan 13, 2007 00:43

The highlights of Friday were definitely the creative writing slam and Ian's birthday party. Classes went alright. I skipped "History of Ideas" just because I was up so late the night before. I was too busy after Japanese to eat dinner at Kaufman, which was fortunate as a handful of people from Seiger got food poisoning and threw up.

Melissa came with me to the Boilerhouse at 5:30 to set up and wait for people to arrive. We wound up having a low turnout. Calaya, David, Caroline, Scott, Tia, Melissa, and I were the only ones there. Matt and his cool-looking, artsy sister made an appearance eventually, but we had finished by then. Everyone had something good to read. Tia's poem was very long, but amazing. We all told her she should publish it. Scott's poetry was very depressing and dark, but I like his first poem a lot. Calaya read a bit quietly. She'd written about her fears for a guy she knew that was near the London bombings. David and Caroline lightened the mood with their back-and-forth poem they made up at dinner. It was hilarious. I read my personal narrative that I wrote the night of Johnny's birthday party. It felt a little strange because I really wasn't interested in Johnny anymore, but I could still feel my emotions from that night. Everyone seemed to like it. Melissa followed me with her dramatic reading of the side of the pepsi can, which was a riot.

With the poetry over, we spent the rest of the time taking cool photos. Scott really got some cool angles. I went back to my room afterward, collected my things and then walked with Melissa to the train station. It was really nice of her to walk with me, I didn't think she'd want to. I took the 8:20 train (and didn't pay) to Aurora where Dad picked me up. He took me straight to Ian's party. The party started out small. Molly Walz, Kelly, a not-so-great-looking John Heronemus, post-dental-surgery Ian, and I were the only ones there. We ate snacks, played bumper pool, and watched Bend it Like Beckam. I liked it, as Dad said I would, but we stopped it once Mike showed up. Livi showed up around the same time, as did Gabby and Isaac. I felt Mike was a little rude for all the people he brought. Ian didn't seem to mind, though. I would've.

Cassie had to pick up her brother from the laundromat eventually. I decided to go with her. I wasn't totally in the party mood, so I wanted some time away. Plus, I still kind of missed Cassie from not seeing her for a year. We picked Zach and some other guy and drove them home on the east side. The other guy was really quiet and creepy-looking. I'd seen him at the high school. I was shocked at how fast Cassie judged him. She kept talking about how her brother shouldn't be hanging around with him and how it would make him look bad. It all seemed really cruel to me.

Back at Ian's party I hung around until midnight. I sang a little karaoke and played some more pool. I was having fun, but knew I had to wake up early the next day, so I left at midnight with Livi.

slam, party, ian
