Chapter 11:
“How are you?” Akiko asked, looking at her.
Mao gave her a smile as she places a cup of coffee on the table and took a seat across Akiko.
“You’re growing bigger and bigger now” she teases while looking at her tummy. Mao places a hand over her tummy and starts to caress it.
“Don’t remind me of that”
“You’re on what month now? Seventh?”
Mao nodded “Yeah and it’s killing me already. Two months more and these kids are already out. I can’t wait to hold them”
The sadness on her face disappears and she starts to talk about her babies “I can’t wait for these kids to come out already” she excitedly said.
“So would it be boys or girls?”
“Actually I don’t have any idea” she said giggling “I want to know when I give birth”
Akiko gave her a weird look “So does that mean you haven’t shopped for baby clothes yet?”
“Done with that one! Jun decides to get two colors. You should check it out it’s really cute…” her smile suddenly disappears at the mention of his name.
Akiko saw this and told herself that it was already time “Mao, Jun called me last night. He said that you won’t pick up your phone.”
“That’s why you’re here?”
“He asked me if I could check on you. He’s afraid to call your house. Did you know that your brother hit him yesterday?”
Mao’s eyes widen “Yusuke? Why would he do that?”
“You know how precious you are to your brother and you are aware that he doesn’t like Jun for you. He’s totally against your relationship, right?”
“But he shouldn’t have done that. How was he?”
Akiko took a sip from her coffee “Working his ass out there in Thailand. I heard that he can’t concentrate with his work.”
Mao smirks “He loves to work, let him be!” she stubbornly said.
She chuckles at Mao’s reaction “So that’s why you’re back here and left him?”
She starts to blabber nonstop “He’s been too busy with work that sometimes when he gets home he’ll just go straight to bed. We don’t even talk anymore. We’re just like strangers sharing the same bed”
“Done?” Akiko said, smiling at her.
“Worst is that he’s working with that girl”
“You mean Kitagawa Keiko?”
“Yeah, that one! I can’t even say her name” she disgustingly said.
Akiko places her coffee down “You know what? You’re being unreasonable…your husband’s an actor he’s bound to work with every female specie in this industry. You should know that and did you ever hear him say anything about your projects? You’re being unfair”
Mao narrows her eyes at Akiko “So you are now on his side? You’re my manager Akiko. How much did he pay you?”
“He doesn’t need to do that and I don’t need his money! If you’re not pregnant I might have strangled you already. Sheesh! You’re acting like a child”
“You know my history with that girl. I don’t trust her” Mao crosses her arms “I don’t trust her with Jun. She’s acting all sweet and innocent but she’s really a devil in disguise. I can’t imagine her being with Jun…it makes me want to throw her”
“For a pregnant woman, you’re really violent”
“She always wants to make me angry. She’ll do anything to fight with me”
“She’s fully aware that you’re married to Jun and you’re carrying his babies. She’ll get in trouble if she at least tries to do something. You know how influential Jun’s company is, if they want you out of this industry they can do that. I’m really surprised that they did not try anything to you”
She looks at her tummy “I can’t work anymore with these that’s why they didn’t do anything to me”
“Is it really about Keiko or you’re just trying to get his attention?”
“I’ll accept anyone to be his partner except Keiko!”
“You said you can’t say her name?”
She acted like she wants to puke and Akiko laughs at her “Are you okay?” she asks.
Mao stops and heaves a sigh “No I’m not. This talk is really stressing me out”
“Try to call him. You two should fix this” Akiko seriously said.
“He’s too busy, he won’t even care if I call or not” she sad, acting like she doesn’t care but deep down she was really hoping that he’ll call again.
“I told you he can’t focus with his work and Ken’s been bugging me about you fight with Jun. You make the move. Call him before it’s too late. Before Keiko snatches your husband”
Mao quickly glares at her “That’s not funny”
”Then call him now! Don’t waste your time sulking here and call him!”
Akiko left after an hour of persuading her to call Jun. Anyway she missed him already so she should just drop the act and call him. Her mother was also trying to convince her to do that ever since she went back home yesterday.
Mao shook her head. She was now determined to give him a call. She was practically at fault also, acting childish and possessive and guessed that Akiko was right after all, that Keiko girl wouldn’t do a thing. She was surprised about his sudden departure and to make the situation worst he’ll be working with that girl.
She looks for his number and waited for him to pick it up.
Jun was still at his hotel room, he just finished taking a shower and he needs to go back down when he hears his mobile ringing her quickly finds it and saw who was calling him. A smile crept to his lips when he her name.
“I thought you’ll never call”
“How was my brother’s punch?”
Jun laughs “It was not a nice parting gift. Could you tell him to stop doing that to me?”
“Yusuke only did that because you made me cry”
He didn’t say anything and just listens to her.
“And what’s with the ‘don’t make me regret with my decision’ thing?”
“I did not mean to say that, I was just tired”
“Tired? You’re getting tired of me, aren’t you? Just say the truth”
“It’s not you and you know that….” He heaves a sigh “...I just want to be with you now”
“Then come home. I want you to come back here” she demanded.
“You’re not mad anymore?”
“If you’ll fly back here I’ll forgive you”
Jun then lies on the bed “If I could just do that I would have been there already. I already miss you”
“Liar”
“That’s the truth. Or if you want you can come here to keep me company.”
“You know they won’t allow me to travel with my condition. Hey it’s already late aren’t you going to rest?”
“Nah! I need to go back to the location I still need to film another scene. How bout you? It’s not good for you to stay up late”
“I want to talk more. We haven’t done this for a long time already.” She said but actually she was already sleepy.
Jun heard her yawn “I’m happy that you called me. I thought I need to get on my knees when I go back there.”
“You still need to do that…but not with me but with Yusuke. You know how much my brother loves me. One wrong move and-”
“I know. Your brother’s really hard to please. I know he doesn’t like me at all so what do you think would be a nice plan for him to like me?”
“Get him a girlfriend then. He’s been like following me everywhere since we started going out. He’s like my stalker”
Jun starts to laugh “Don’t remind me of those events anymore. I wanted to forget that”
“That’ll be your assignment. Find him a girlfriend so he’ll stop harassing you”
“Do you really love your Yusuke?”
“I love him, he’s my only brother. I don’t want to get all his attention and besides you’re already too much for me”
“You bet! Hey! I don’t want to cut our conversation but I need to go back to work”
“There you go again” Mao sounded hurt but she really needs to understand it.
“I’m sorry and it’s late you need to rest. I promise to call you back tomorrow”
“Ok...don’t tire yourself and call me as soon as you’re done with your work”
“Promise. Go to sleep now and take care of our baby. Love you”
“Love you too” she answers back then ended the call. She felt relieved talking to him. At least now everything’s ok. She already promised herself not to get jealous with his work. The keyword is TRUST and she badly needed that right now.
Mao starts to browse her phone and saw her picture with him “Miss you” she said as she continues to stare at their picture and without her knowing it she’s already drifted off to dreamland.
Chapter 12:
Today was her check-up, she had called her doctor yesterday to schedule a check-up and she woke up really early in the morning for this one. Her mother was supposed to accompany her but there was some emergency that she needed to attend to. Yusuke offered to accompany her instead but she knows that he’s also busy so she just told him that he can just drop her off at the hospital.
When she arrived she saw a couple waiting for their turn as well. She took a seat next to them and took out her baby book to check something. At first she didn’t realize that they were staring at her but when she looks up she saw them turning their heads away from her.
“Is there something wrong?” she asks.
The woman looks at her and smiles “Aren’t you Inoue Mao?”
“Yes” she smiles back at her.
Then the woman turns to her husband “I told you so” she whispers then faces Mao again.
“I can’t believe that you’re really pregnant. You’re on what month now?” she asks again pointing at her rounding belly.
“Me? I’m on my eight month” She proudly said while touching her belly with her free hand.
“Eight month? You look like you’re already going to burst”
Mao didn’t know if she’s going to be happy with her comment or not. She just wants her to stop already.
“I’m having twins”
The woman was surprised to hear that. “You’re having twins? How old are you again?” she continues to ask her.
“Twenty-one...I’ll be turning twenty-two in two months” she already hesitant to answer her.
“Oh you’re too young…and it’s your first, right? Aren’t you scared? It’s your first and it’ll be twins”
“Not really” She’s definitely not happy with this conversation anymore.
“The one that got you pregnant, Is it really Matsumoto Jun? And he’s only what…twenty-five?”
“Are you even married?” the guy raises his brow at her.
“What’s wrong with these people? Don’t they watch news or something?” Mao thought, getting irritated already.
The guys shook his head “What’s happening to Japan now!”
“Excuse me?”
“Have you ever thought of abortion? Girls your age would most probably go with abortion”
“I’m not like that” Mao closes the book and puts it back inside her bag “Will you excuse me. I need to go to the comfort room” she said and then stands up ready to leave when Dr. Ishigaki’s secretary suddenly came in.
“Just a moment Matsumoto-san” she said making Mao stop from leaving. “It’s your turn now. Dr. Ishigaki’s waiting for you inside”
“Thank goodness!” Mao sighs in relief.
“Let’s go now” she told Mao but before she goes inside she held her chin up and turns her head towards the couple “Matsumoto” she smirks while holding her left hand up showing them her wedding ring “I’m married” she said then went inside.
“Good morning” Mao greeted as she takes a seat opposite of Dr. Ishigaki’s
“Inoue-san….I mean Matsumoto-san” her teases her. She’s been doing that ever since she and Jun got married. Mao sheepishly smiles back at her, she’s still not used to other people calling her that. It’s just really awkward hearing them calling her Matsumoto.
“I’m sorry about that” her doctor apologizes.
Mao shakes her head “It’s okay Dr. Ishigaki. I’m also not used to being called like that”
They both chuckled then her doctor asks “Where’s your husband?”
“Ah, unfortunately he’s not here”
“But I thought he’s going to accompany you here cause I saw earlier on the news that he arrived last night. Maybe he’s still suffering from jetlag? Your husband’s really busy”
“Last night?” she was clueless.
The check-up went well. Everything’s fine with her and her babies. Just a month more and they’ll be in her arms already. For a moment she had forgotten about the news that Dr. Ishigaki told her. So he’s back but she still needs to confirm this.
Mao was sitting at their living room watching T.V if you call it watching when she only stays in one channel for about a millisecond. She was doing that for thirty minutes already that it caught the attention of her mother who was preparing for their lunch.
“Are you okay dear?” she asks her daughter whose eyes are still glued to the television. “Do you want me to call Dr. Ishigaki?” she asks her. Mao sahkes her head but was still looking intently at the television. “Do you want to watch some movies? Your brother bought some DVD’s”
“No thanks”
“What’s wrong? Are you not feeling well? Do you want to go to the doctor? Or you’re already hungry? Don’t worry I’m almost finish with it” her mother said, concerned about her daughter.
Mao looks serious at what she’s doing “I just need to verify something”
Her mother was still looking at her when all of a sudden her face starts to change “Matsumoto” Mao murmurs, there’s a hint of anger in her voice.
Mrs. Inoue turns around and looks at what her daughter’s watching and when she saw it she can’t help but shake her head “Just call him. He must have a reason” she pats Mao’s head trying to calm her down and went back to the kitchen
“You were here?” she was really trying her best to stay calm.
“I love you!” Jun cheerfully said as he tries to ignore her question.
“Love you too.” Mao responded but then repeats her question, back to business “So you were here?”
“I’m…I’m still here” Jun answers.
“Breathe Mao, Breathe” she reminded herself not to lose control “You’re still here? Where are you now? You’re coming home now?”
“I’m on my way to the airport. I need to go back to Thailand”
She was trying her best not get angry but who is she kidding? And finally she snapped “You’re going back there again without even seeing me?” she was really hurt about that.
“I needed to leave as soon as possible. It was just a brief meeting with the jimousho” he tried to explain it to her. He knows she’s mad.
“You were here in Tokyo and you didn’t even inform me? Your own wife doesn’t even know that you’re back? Other people know more about your schedule than your own wife” she sarcastically said.
“I know it’s my fault but as what I told you, it was all too sudden. Ken suddenly asked me to prepare to go back here. I wasn’t expecting this”
Mao huffed “You didn’t even bother to contact me? Do you really care about me Jun?”
“Are we going to fight again?” he sounded tired already.
“I know work’s more important to you but this is too much”
“That’s not it. Why are you thinking like that again?”
“Why don’t you just transfer there in Thailand? It seems that you’re getting fond of living there already”
“Mao-chan…” Jun tried to pacify her but she immediately cuts him.
“Mao-chan your face!” she shouted then slams the phone.
