MMM and how come 15 seconds be sooooo awesome!

Since I don't have an icon suitable for this kind of entries I'll just use this super かっこいい Aibis icon, and because I love that photoshoot. Anyway, I've been trying to finish the post for Neen's b-day, but it looks like it will take forever. So, today I just decided to type down a couple of thoughts about this drama.

Yes, this is the first kdrama review I'm doing, even though I said I'd do another one, I felt that this one was better to begin with, just because... ^___^
The reasons

First, I'm totally new at this new environment of Kdramas, so, I'm only here to tell you about my experience from the point of view of a Jdorama reviewer. I'm almost unaware of the Korean Wave, I actually google Hallyu Drama, yes that's my stance. So, I'll keep private my comments about this new weird world and about their opinions about what I feel familiar with. Most of their opinion on the crossroads stories are 'Japanese actors are so ugly that my eyes hurt'
(\_/)
(°.°)
c(”)(”)
I'm just going to let that pass and not take it against this drama, I promise I won't! lol ب_ب and even though I could easily answer them with an equaly shallow argument, I'm just going to take some distance and act like as the newcomer as I feel.

The actual review

So reading about this, it turned out that in Korea it was most likely a failure, that I find it understandable, but the DVD was actually a hit on Japan, why? Maybe because Sukkie has many fans in Japan as I being told, and maybe because this drama actually has an interesting beginning... So my impressions about it, どうぞ

Title:
매리는 외박중 / Maerineun Oebakjoong
Also known as:
Marry Me, Mary!
Genre:
Romance, comedy

16

KBS2
Broadcast period:
2010-Nov-08 to 2010-Dec-28
Air time:
Monday & Tuesday 21:55
Original Soundtrack:
Mary Stayed Out All Night OST

The plot

So this is a story, a love story, all of them are, right? About a girl whose name, Wi Mae Ri, sounds a lot like Mary, hence the name, or like Merry Christmas for a certain Korean actor. The guy's name is again impossible, Kang Moo Kyul, and the couple first met when she nearly ran him over with a car. Sounds cheesy, wait, that's just the beginning. This, again is 16 episodes, and I chose this from other of 20! This again, was suggested by my friend, I think she liked it, or she likes Sukkie, lol.
There's a triangle, of course with the third part being a very handsome unknown for me lol, actor. He is really cute, even though his character is quite pitiful.
To finish, both of them for certain and pointless reasons wants to marry Mary. Yes, will this story finish in marriage, sense or even an end?

The kiss, wait why I'm starting with this? Maybe I'm just lazy

Him, the name it's just impossible!

Wi Mae-ri, is that right?

The characters

The girl is quite cute and has an amazing long hair, I don't like his hair cut but the hair looks great. The clothes she uses are quite weird and make her look so much younger, she should be 24. Actually both of them were younger, weird. Jang Geun Suk's character is an indie rock singer, a little bit like his real self, could it be? He is good at this character, weird clothes, an androgynous look and a strong presence on the scenery, familiar? I'd love to see him in a weaker kind of performance, maybe he can not hide his true nature that much?

Yeah right, like he would do this to himself

Indie rock star

About indie music, they made me recall Hanson now, that's a cool indie band. Yeah!

The good, the bad and the ugly

The good may be the chemistry between the main characters aka triangle. The main couple is adorable together and have a couple of very sweet moments together. Yet, the interaction between the characters was very forced and deprived of real meaning, it was like you want to ask who is thinking about this plot!! There were actually a couple of troubles alonside the road, ep 1-10 are written by one person and the rest by another due to problems and low ratings. The first part was promising, but since they're "together" it just look dumb, I felt dumb watching, this made me felt dumb, I think that was the worse part!
The plot kept repeating without seemed to go any further than turning the corner. It was just plain lame.

The Jealousy scene, how come I know how to write that in Japanese and can't spell it in English!!

Yes, this girl, she's like the drama repetitive and dumb

The director, she said that word way too many times

Charisma

This moment was drama suicide for episode 6, way too early for my taste

And the perfect hair, my fetiche lol

The ugly would be the family relationships, Korean dramas as far as I can tell, very little, has none of the good taste and sense of the Japanese counterparts into finishing in a fulfilling manner a family bond. There was no further explanation of the origins of the stubbornness of the parents and particularly Mary's father was annoying, mean and an awful parent from beginning to end, I can't explain myself how he could do that to his own daughter, awful.

The other stuff

A nice strong point would be OST, it is quite cute and fairly entertaining even the process of the last introduced song, Hello hello, I liked it, even though it gets repetitive. Sukkie has a very deep voice and you can enjoy listening singing, but sometimes it just felt like filling space, or time, specially in the last episodes, I even speeded it forward, yes I wanted this to end.

She is cute and quite endearing even with that Harry Potter scar

The camera angles and the sceneries in general were not much interesting and the clothes were very distracting, I wanted to know what was going on. This is mainly going on on winter, and I was bother by the constant scarves over the face, Mae-ri was almost only eyes, with those bangs, that were given by her scar, and the scarf you could only see the eyes, what?? I hate when that happens. I was annoyed by the clothes.

This kind of spirit and childish teasing was completely wash off by the end

Sherk's cat

The parks visited by her and the director are beautiful and them together give us such a peaceful atmosphere that I cannot fully get her inner reasons to pick Sukkie's character other than she met him first and that they both had disastrous parents.

Nice chuu!

kawaii kid story cut and unfinished

My marks

There was a time when I was really into it, around ep 6, and I felt everything till 10 was rushed and sloppy, but it was around 11 when nonsense took the control of this and that was it.
The end just happens to be there around episode 16, but without the original charming of the characters, specially Mary's. I hate that it was soooo repetitive, the fact that the main obstacles were the parents and in a so out of proportion exposure of bullying from parents to fully grown up people!

Nice chemistry

Merry christmas!

He's cute!

The real OTP! They were really funny together

At the end, we only have a lot of unfinished plot lines, unexplicable and unsopported situations, fully unrecognisable leftovers of an original character and no closure. It was just sad.ಠ_ಠ

The end. That's a lie, everything changed Mary!

Cheesy

Unrelated

yet, the kitty was cute

She has a very nice hair

So, this could probably fit into a 3 out of five, but since it makes me soooo angry to recall the final 5 ep or so, I'll just give this 2 and a half. If it were just up to ten or so, then this will problably be much better.

I wouldn't recommend this to no one, except you are a fan of the main characters, you like to see a little of indie rock performances or are in a humor to put up with a train wreck story, sorry.

It could have being so much better

And to finish, how come 15 seconds be so awesome, and why 15 seconds!!! Come on, made it 30 at least!!!!
