He was standing on the side of the highway, or at least, what passed for a highway in these parts of the country. A strange mix of asphalt and reddish-brown rocks, the "highway" was really more of a poorly-made back road. There was still some blood on his right index finger, so he spit in his other palm and began to wipe the stains away.
