Just a thought

I had an odd thought about the trend towards obesity in the US. I was thinking about how people live in places where something we consider essential to a healthy diet is scarce. They adapt somehow, and their bodies learn to get along without. I'm wondering if obesity might be linked to the variety in our diets. We eat Indian food, Chinese food, Greek, Italian, Mexican, French... I could be mistaken, but I believe the variety of foods available now in the US is unprecedented in our evolutionary history. Perhaps our bodies don't get enough of the same old things often enough to learn how to process them really efficiently. Our bodies are trying to adapt, but can't figure out what they should be adapting to. Just a thought.

philosophy, kinda random
