A/N: Sorry for the short chap. Kinda sneakily typed this on my phone while the lecture was going. :D Just had time to post it today. I'll make it up in the next chapter. i'll do my best to make it longer.
CHAPTER 6
“Hyung, you don’t have to go. It’s alright, I’ll just buy my own lunch.” Junsu said on the phone as he wiped the glass of the window.
“No. I insist. I’ve been spending my time tending to my clients and I terribly need a break. Besides, I haven’t been a good friend recently. Heck, I haven’t even visited you there in the café you’re working at. And you know I don’t want you starving yourself to death.” Jaejoong tsked from the other line. “I’m a few minutes away anyway so just wait for me.”
Junsu listened to Jaejoong while he let his eyes travel outside by the patio of the shop. It was just two days before the grand opening of the shop. Everything else was settled except the chairs and tables which will be delivered that same day. The café was already looking good and like what Yoochun said, he indeed followed the interior Junsu drew on that piece of paper. So far, they were all doing a great job at the café.
It was a few seconds later when he saw Yunho trimming the hedge a few feet away from the gate and his eyes widen at the sudden realization. “Wait! Hyung, don’t come. I swear to God you’ll regr-“
“Oh, stop it Su! I’m coming over and that’s final. I’ll be there in a jiff.”
Panicking, Junsu ran out of the building and raced outside the gate. “No, no, n-“ The line was immediately cut. Junsu pocketed his phone and nervously stood by the side walk, looking for his hyung.
Help me, Lord. Junsu wasn’t given the chance to warn Jaejoong that Yunho worked at the café. It always escaped his mind since he was already troubled by a lot of things. He knew that if his hyung sees Yunho at the café, his blood would boil and things wouldn’t look good. Junsu looked left and right, trying to spot Jaejoong. He soon spotted the red haired beauty walking down from his right, carrying something which Junsu guessed was the bento his hyung had prepared for him.
The sight of Jaejoong caused Junsu to internally panic some more and made him pace back and forth through the gate. Once Jaejoong was near the gate, Junsu immediately rushed in front of him to block his way.
With stretched out arms, Junsu had a big, nervous smile in front of Jaejoong. “Hi hyung! It’s good to see you again!”
Thinking that Junsu was asking for a hug, Jaejoong hugged Junsu and pulled away. “I missed you baby Su!” Jaejoong then proceeded to walk past Junsu and head towards the shop’s gate.
With quick thinking, Junsu immediately ran in front of Jaejoong again, blocking his way. “Junsu, will you stop that and just let me get to the building?”
“Stop what? I just want to look at you longer since it’s been a while since I’ve seen you.”
Jaejoong rolled his eyes. “Well you can look at me as long as you want after we get inside the café.” He stepped to the right and shockingly Junsu side stepped to the left, blocking his way again. “Junsu!” Jaejoong side stepped to the left and Junsu blocked his way nonetheless.
Junsu sheepishly smiled and Jaejoong’s eyes turned into slits. Then, Jaejoong thought of a good idea. He pretended to side step to the right and like he predicted, Junsu moved to the same direction with all his body. Now with an opening to the left, Jaejoong immediately ran past Junsu and through the gate. “Why do you always fall for that trick?”
“Hyung! You can’t go inside!” Junsu quickly followed Jaejoong inside who was walking towards the steps leading to the patio.
“And why can’t I go inside?” Jaejoong stopped in the middle of the stairs and turned to look at Junsu who was looking left and right.
He was just here a while ago. Junsu couldn’t spot Yunho outside the café but it was not going to stop him from preventing his hyung from going inside the building since Yunho might have went inside. He saw Jaejoong continuing up and closing into the doors. Junsu quickly ran up and caught up with his hyung. “Well becau-“ Junsu bumped with Jaejoong’s back and was curious why his hyung suddenly stopped walking.
Junsu saw who was walking towards the door and his eyes grew wide.
“Jung Yunho…” Jaejoong whispered as he unfalteringly stared at Yunho who had stopped walking right after he spotted Jaejoong standing by the door.
Jaejoong immediately turned around, wanting to leave the place. He pushed the bento to Junsu without looking at his face. “Here’s your lunch.”
“Hyung, I-“
“Kim Jaejoong, wait!” Yunho surprisingly ran after Jaejoong but slowed down at the patio, seeing that the man was already out the gate. “Shit…” Yunho pinched the bridge of his nose.
Seeing that Yunho just stood there, Junsu approached him. “Umm… Yunho…sshi?”
Hearing a voice behind him, Yunho turned around and saw that Junsu called out his name. “Yeah?”
Junsu bit his lip as he awkwardly brought his eyes away from Yunho’s face. “Umm…” With a deep breath, Junsu looked up with a small smile. “I know there are issues between you and Jaejoong hyung, but I won’t judge. I’m Jae hyung’s friend and all that but I have no right to make conclusions of you, specially since I haven’t heard your side of the story.” Junsu nodded at what he said and continued. “I really hope we can be friends despite the chaotic things with hyung. Besides, we’ll be working here together anyway.”
A sigh escaped Yunho’s mouth as he closed his eyes. He chuckled and smiled at Junsu. “You’re a good kid, Junsu. And as for my side of the story, I don’t think it’s the right time to tell you. I’ll tell you when I’m ready.” Yunho then walked towards the door but stopped and turned his head towards Junsu. “Oh, and sorry for being so awkward and silent around you for the past few days. I know you and Jaejoong are close so I didn’t know how to approach you. I’ll be glad to be friends with you. And just call me hyung, if you want.”
Junsu’s smile grew as he faced Yunho. “Alright, hyung!” Junsu lightly laughed and followed Yunho inside.
Just by the kitchen doors, Yoochun witnessed the whole drama happening by the patio. He shook his head and got inside the kitchen again. It was nice to see two people be honest to each other but Yoochun was already worrying about what kind of trouble the two would be bringing inside the café since there were outside factors they were involved in. Those guys better not bring their problems with them at work.
It was later that afternoon when the other furniture was delivered to the coffee shop. The gang had all stopped what they were doing inside the café and proceeded outside to help with the unloading. A white cargo truck had backed up through the driveway and the driver opened the door at the back.
“Finally!” Yoochun exclaimed as he saw the stacks of chairs and tables inside the truck. The rest of the guys had other furniture they were unloading so Yoochun decided to help out as well. He got up inside the cargo space and dragged with him a table. He spotted Junsu who had just settled the chair down and was now just standing there. “Hey, little help here!”
Junsu saw that Yoochun was calling for him and walked towards him.
“Here. Help me bring this down.” Junsu gave a hand in bringing the wooden table down and waited for Yoochun to go down. Junsu let his eyes wander around, looking past the gate. It was unexpected but he saw Joongki pass by the entrance and stop on his tracks. Shocked by his sudden appearance, Junsu quickly hid his body away from Joongki’s sight.
Since the table he brought down was not that heavy to carry, Yoochun decided to bring the table up the stairs alone. He proceeded to carry it up and was about to walk forward when two hands had grabbed the other end of the table, pushing back. “What the! Junsu let me bring the table inside.”
“SSH! I meant no, just leave it here and unload the rest.” Junsu didn’t look at Yoochun while he talked and was instead craning his head to the left, trying to see if Joongki really did spot him. Seeing that the dreaded guy was coming his way, Junsu immediately went down on all fours and crawled to the right side of the truck which was not exposed to Joongki’s sight.
Joongki approached Yoochun and smiled. “Hello. Sorry to bother you but where did Junsu go?”
Yoochun sneaked a look at Junsu without Joongki noticing and saw that Junsu was shaking his head, indicating that he was asking Yoochun to lie. He returned his gaze back at Joongki and replied, “Junsu? Oh you mean the guy about this height, brown hair, and is dressed like a hobo?”
Joongki chuckled and nodded. “Yeah, that’s him.”
“He went that way to the boutique just across the place.”
Joongki crunched his eyebrows together and cocked his head to the side. “Really? I thought I saw him standing here. I didn’t catch him walk to the other side of the street. Are you sure he went that way?”
“Yup. He had a grey shirt on with black long sleeves underneath right?” Joongki nodded in reply. “Then that’s him for sure.”
“Alright. Thanks. And sorry for bothering you. Have a great day!” Joongki smiled and walked out of the café’s driveway.
When Joongki was finally out of sight, Junsu stood up from his place and walked towards Yoochun. He sighed and wiped the beads of sweat on his forehead with the sleeve of his shirt. “That was close… Thank you for that.”
Yoochun sighed and carried the table up the stairs and inside the shop. He got out after a few minutes and stood on top of the stairs. “Look, you and Yunho hyung are probably facing some issues but I’m warning you, don’t bring your problems in the café. Got that?” Yoochun got down the stairs and stared at Junsu right in the eye.
Seeing that Yoochun was dead serious about what he said, Junsu could do anything but nod. It may sound mean but for Junsu, Yoochun was right. He has involved Yoochun in so many of his problems, that he has already trouble the guy too much. Park Yoochun was not really an all-mean guy since he’s taken care of and helped Junsu so many ways. At least he should keep in mind of not bringing trouble to the café.
--------------------
It was now the day of the grand opening of Prince Café and the guys woke up extra early to fix the place with decorations and some finishing touches. Changmin and Geunsuk were fixing the pastries on the display. Mr. Jaesuk was prepping his brewing tools. Yunho and Yoochun were setting up the balloon arch by the door of the café. Junsu was applying some final adjustments on the placement of some furniture.
It was now twenty minutes before they officially open the café but the people were already gathering outside the gate. Ever since the rumors about handsome workers in the café spread like wildfire, the people particularly young women were anticipating the said opening of the shop.
The guys were inside checking the whole place to see if everything is ready. Mr. Jaesuk stood by the doorway and admired the whole look of the place. Even the name suited the whole shop. With staff members that had the faces of the gods, any lady would be feeling like a princess when they’ll be served by these handsome men. He couldn’t deny the fact that Yoochun indeed deserve the credit for fixing the shop well and for managing everything else. He was a good kid who knew how to take things seriously if needed.
“Wow. Look at this place! It’s amazing,” Jaesuk exclaimed with his arms stretched out.
Yoochun walked beside him and admired the shop as well. “Yeah. But I couldn’t have done it without you guys! And of course Junsu’s drawing of the interior.”
“Junsu’s drawing? You mean Junsu designed this?”
“Uh-huh. He’s good huh?”
Jaesuk nodded with big eyes. “Hey Junsu!” He called out the young man who had just finished moving a table set near them. Junsu looked up and saw that Jaesuk was calling for him.
He walked towards the two with a curious face. “Yes, hyung?”
“I heard from Yoochun that the interior of the café was your idea.”
Junsu blushed and shyly smiled. “Yeah, it was.”
Jaesuk grinned at him and marveled at the simple yet beautiful interior of the café. “That’s amazing! You’re really a creative bunch. And you’re actually good at designing interiors. Why didn’t you just have that kind of job?”
“That’s actually the course I graduated from. I’m an interior designer but the situation didn’t give me enough time to look for the job so I ended up working at Torofv. But it doesn’t bother me anyway since I like painting too.”
Yoochun was shocked to find out that Junsu was an interior designer. He seemed to be much more of a fine arts graduate instead. The way Junsu painted convinced Yoochun that he had spent his years developing the talent and skill to paint. But anyway, Junsu was still great at both things. It was just strange that Junsu never got to find a job as an interior designer since he was better than some of the veterans of the industry.
They chatted for a while and soon enough, it was time to open the café to the people. Geunsuk opened the gate and people started pouring inside without forgetting to gawk and flirt with Geunsuk. People immediately grabbed seats and within a few minutes, the café was jam-packed. The job even grew more difficult for the six of them since everything the shop was offering were free and so people started ordering a lot. It was tiring to handle them but nevertheless, the staff delivered.
It was later that afternoon when Mrs. Kim and Saeyoung decided to visit Junsu in the café. Saeyoung marveled at the indeed very handsome staff that paced back and forth to the kitchen and the tables.
“Oppa!” Saeyoung grabbed hold of Junsu’s shoulders, causing her brother to look at her with shock. “They’re so handsome! ALL OF THEM!” Saeyoung then spotted Changmin who was tending to one table and was laughing at something that the customer told him. “OMG! Who’s that handsome oppa?”
Junsu followed her gaze and saw that she was staring at Changmin. “Oh, that’s Changmin.” He saw the hopeful look on her sister’s face and raised an eyebrow. “Don’t even think about it. He’s too old for you.”
“Whatever. I don’t care.” Saeyoung then proceeded to sit on one of the empty tables and started gawking at Changmin who glanced at her and gave her a playful wink.
“Your sister is too crazy sometimes. Just like you.” Mrs. Kim shook her head and chuckled at the sight of her daughter drooling over someone.
A scoff was heard as Junsu raised an eyebrow at his mom. “Me? You’re the one who made us. You’re the mother hen who’s the craziest. We’re just your underlings.” Both mother and son happily laughed at the statement Junsu made.
“Junsu-yah. Can you go to the kitchen and help Yunho there? We’ll handle the rest of the work here,” Jaesuk said as he concocted some more of the lattes and fraps.
“Okay!” Junsu looked back at his mom and sister. “Sorry mom. I’ll leave you for a while. Go sit with Saeyoung and order something.”
Junsu proceeded to the kitchen and found that the glassware and the utensils were piling up in the sink. He quickly got to the sink and started working on cleaning the used wares.
Yoochun on the other hand was busy tending to the customers who kept on requesting for him to serve their table. He wanted to complain about it since there were other people who really needed his services but he couldn’t whine about it since they were customers. One table at a time kept on calling for the handsome workers and kept them busy.
A man had walked in the café and Yoochun didn’t notice who it was. It was later on when he bumped with the said man that he realized who it was. He was about to greet the man when the other decided to greet him first with a loud voice.
“YOU!” Joongki pointed a finger at Yoochun.
A dumbfounded look was plastered on Yoochun’s face as he stared at Joongki. “Me?” he pointed at himself.
“Yes, you!” Joongki’s expression was scrunched up and indicated that he was angry for some reason. “You’re the one who kidnapped my Junsu on the streets a few days ago!”
“Kidnap?! Junsu? Oh please, watch your mouth buddy. I wouldn’t dare do such a thing to that hobo.”
Junsu was done with cleaning the wares in the kitchen and walked out of the kitchen but immediately went back when he saw Yoochun talking to Joongki. That bastard! What is he doing here again?! Please leave me alone! Junsu craned his neck from the kitchen doors and listened to the two talk.
“You watch your mouth!” Joongki accusingly stared at Yoochun. “I saw you carry him to your bike when he was drunk in the streets!”
Yoochun scoffed in disbelief and glared at Joongki. “You said it yourself! He was drunk in the streets. I just spotted him there and decided to take care of him before anything bad happened.” He glanced to his right and saw that Junsu as craning his neck from the kitchen doors. He secretly signaled Junsu to talk to Joongki but Junsu violently shook his head, saying no to Yoochun. Ugh! I told you not to bring your problems to work!”
“Go talk to him!” Yoochun mouthed at Junsu as Joongki checked his phone which just rang a few seconds ago. Junsu mouthed a “no” and pulled his head back inside.
Joongki looked back at Yoochun, not noticing the conversation between him and Junsu. “Who are you anyway to touch my Junsu?”
Yoochun cringed when he heard my Junsu. It kind of made the argument awkward. “I’m Park Yoochun. I’m his boss here. And you are?”
“Song Joongki. I’m Junsu’s boyf- Junsu’s friend,” Joongki cleared as his strong gaze faltered at his slip of the tongue. “Wow. So now the boss has the rights to take advantage of his employees? Where’s Junsu? I want to talk to him.” Joongki hardened his gaze again at Yoochun.
Oh, so this is the Joongki Junsu was cursing. Bastard. Yoochun pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes in frustration. The man in front of him was currently pissing him off and he was not in the mood to argue since he’s been busy the whole day tending to the customers. “He’s currently working. I forbid my workers from taking breaks today since, as you can see, the shop is very busy. Look, if you don’t watch your mouth, I’m gonna shove my fist inside it to shut you up.”
Unfazed by the threat, Joongki clenched his fist and smirked at Yoochun. “So you’re hiding him now? What? Want to solo his presence? What did you do to him?!”
Yoochun’s fists clenched harder, causing them to tremble in anger. God, I would curse this son of a bitch too if I was in any way involved with him. He glanced past a customer and looked at the kitchen doors. He chuckled and caused Joongki to follow his gaze. There they spotted Junsu who poked his head in between the doors, eavesdropping on the two men’s conversation and now had two pairs of eyes looking at him.
