milestone: Kay in Yokohama
in about half an hour, Kay and hubs will be back home from their Yokohama trip. hubs took tons of pics, and i can't wait to look through them and put some up on my facebook. :)
they were gone for about 10 days and during that time, Kay got to hang with her good friend and my in-law's neighbor M-chan. M-chan is about a year older than Kay, so it was really perfect for them to get along and play together. plus, they have similar personalities.
what was different from this trip and a big milestone was that hubs and i thought Kay was big enough and responsible enough to go out without having one of us with her. for the record, hubs and i are very protective of Kay and generally don't even trust leaving her with her grandparents alone. however, she's demonstrated that she is able to do things by herself and has gotten more independent after starting school at the hoikuen. so, there were about 3-4 times where we both decided to let her go out with M-chan or her family or even my mother in-law. fiy, my in-laws are both over 70 and not so great health-wise, but hubs and i decided it was time since she'll be starting 1st grade next April, and will have to learn to be independent sooner or later. besides, hubs and i trust that Kay is careful and smart enough now to take care of herself and do the right thing. we are also slowly trusting our environment, meaning that we're actually trusting Japan to be a safe place and not a place where every stranger is just waiting to kidnap your kid and do terrible things to them.
when i say that last part to my Japanese friends, they all laugh at me and say "but this is Japan!". yea and i guess they don't think that crazy people exist in Japan, which they totally do! crazy people are EVERYWHERE. ^_^;;
so, this was a big step for hubs and me. i just want to thank the stars that nothing happened. no news is good news in my book ^_^
