interviewing potential teachers; ordering take out Dominoes

i know i say this like all the time, but when you're working 6 days a week, things tend to just zip by you. the next thing you know, it's the beginning of another work week!

last week was very uneventful. other than having a couple of interviews for a new English teacher on Friday, things just kind of went along. i don't know why the school is interviewing for new English teachers, because i don't intend on leaving, but i guess they realized that they put all their eggs in my basket, and if i were to leave, things would come crashing down in a way. :/ plus i think they're also planning on making more evening classes, and they know i don't do evenings.

i interviewed two ladies from China who are studying now at the nearby Kyushu University. they were pretty nice and very open, but seemed to be lacking in the experience that i was looking for. Candidate A really seems to do well with the little kids, but has only tutoring high schoolers as her only teaching experience, while Candidate B taught Mandarin to Japanese students in China. Their English proficiency was excellent, but again, classroom management might be a problem since both candidates lack in dealing with kids under the age of 6.

honestly, i don't know who they're going to be teaching though, so maybe management will have them teaching the older kids or adults in the potential evening classes we're planning on opening :) if that's the case then i think they'd be all right for the job. :)

this Sunday, i calculated our budget for this week and we had just enough for another order of pizza! again with the Dominoes buy 1 get 1 free deal, i've been trying to get the best use of that before it ends on June 17th :) last week, i ordered two pizzas and pretty much ate only 1/4 of everything and froze the rest. even if we still had pizza left over in our freezer, i decided to stock up again this week ^_^ since it was Sunday and the deal is only for take out, i had the option of walking all the way over there, order, waiting 20-30 min for them to make my pizza and bring it back, or just order over the phone and then walk over to pick it up. the walk is about 10 minutes since the closest Dominoes is about 3 blocks away from our apt. so, i decided to overcome my fear of speaking on the phone in Japanese, and ordered over the phone. ^_^;; of course, i did my homework first: got online to write down the items i wanted, went to google translate to check the pronunciation, and then called when i got all my info down.

i was a little nervous when they picked up and started rambling a bunch of Japanese over the phone into my ear, but surprisingly, things got processes and i was able to order without a hitch! ^_^ after about half an hour, Kay and i got ready to take a little stroll down 3 blocks to get our pizza. the feeling of accomplishment upon getting my medium crispy thin crust pizza and large potato sausage pizza all the way home was very rewarding ^_^ also, i have now decided that Dominoes crispy thin crust is my favorite. :D i actually didn't even touch the large pizza, so i now have it in our freezer for easy pizza bentos/dinners when i'm in a bind for time. ^_^

next week will be Father's Day, but we won't be doing anything both at home or at the daycare. our owners know of a few kids at the daycare who are raised by single mothers, so in order to keep things from being awkward at home with them, our daycare does not celebrate Father's Day... go fig. i guess Japanese people don't think grandfathers are included in Father's Day... *shrug* this is where i just leave all that up to management since they call the shots, and i just teach what they want me to teach :P

as far as celebrating at home, i'm not really thinking of anything special since hubs doesn't come back until the 22nd, but maybe we'll get some cake as a treat and eat it while online via skype with hubs ^_~ we'll see. :)

i'll leave you with something that i've been listening to at night. it's an oldie but goodie ^_^
