A Failed Attempt

A/N: AU teenage minkey drabble. I've actually have two fics like this. This is the drabble so I decided to post it...it's not very good though...sorry. OTL

Summary: Minho is standing on the rooftop. It had just popped into his head as he was walking by. The way out. He knows he can do it. He has the will, he just needs to close his eyes and step off. It's that simple. No one will miss him. He's making things easier. There's nothing stopping him but he still hesitates and it saves two lives

"Don’t."

One word and suddenly the rooftop seemed really high again. Minho closed his eyes shaking his head.

"Yah! Get down!"

"Please don’t try to talk me out of this." Minho replied taking a deep breath.

The boy behind him scoffed, “I’m not.”

At this Minho looked back to see the pale boy, different uniform from Minho but a pin that showed he was in the same year. The boy was lanky looking for someone who wasn’t taller than Minho. He had sharp, almost cat like eyes and dark eyebrows.

"I already wrote in my note that I was going to off here. Find somewhere else." The kid set down his bag.

"What?"

The boy rolled his eyes,”What? Did you think you were the only person on the planet planning to kill themselves? Get real besides you can’t do it right now anyway. The elementary tour doesn’t end for another twenty minutes so unless you want to die like a complete asshole and scar thirty seven-year-olds for life on your way out, you should get down.”

"What?"

"Just get down you moron." The other snapped.

Minho found himself doing as the other told him. The other boy huffed annoyed, “What’s so bad you’re going to kill yourself anyway? And why in my spot? I’ve had this spot scouted out for three months.”

"I was here first," Minho responded.

"I have this location in my note," The boy yelled, "Obviously this is my spot. Just because you happen to get here before me doesn’t make it any less my spot. Hell you were going to off yourself in front of elementary students. Did you wrap up anything? Did you think about it? Did you even leave a note?"

"Who cares if I left a note? Why does any of that matter?"

"You're selfish you're just doing it for yourself," He scolded, "You probably haven't considered anyone else."

"Why should I consider someone else?" Minho answered, "I'm just making their lives easier."

"You really don't know how this works," The kid sighed, "You haven't even thought it over have you? They'll have to identify the body and plan the funeral. If you don't leave a note they might think you're missing before the police calls them in. They'll have to pack up all your things knowing you didn't leave a proper goodbye." He rolled his eyes, "What's your name?"

"Choi Minho."

"Look Minho-ah you should think about this some more ok?" He responded. "You need to make sure you aren't burdening people when you do it. You haven't left a note, you didn't know about the elementary tours, you should take a few days to think about it and then scout your own spot it you want to do it or maybe use the train or pills. Hanging is pretty popular too."

"You're not trying to talk me out of it?"

"Well I'm not a hypocrite. I did come here to do the same thing," His huffed, "You don't know me. I'm just a stranger there's no point in me trying to tell you what to do. I'm just letting you know there's a better way to do it."

Minho took a few more steps from the ledge of the building, "What's your name?"

He shrugged, "Doesn't matter. Are you going to go? I can't have you up here when I jump or they'll suspect something weird and you'll definitely have a hard time doing yours."

"I told you my name," Minho replied. "And I'm going to take your advice so tell me your name."

"Kim Kibum."

Minho bit his lip curious. "How do you know if it's right?"

"You don't," Kibum replied, "You just get too tired to think about it. You get too tired to think about anything. There's nothing left."

"What did you lose?"

"Everything," Kibum answered. "You?"

"I lost my future, and my father's trust and approval." Minho replied, "Everything my family and I have worked the last ten years for. There doesn't seem to be any other way so when I was walking by this building I thought I could end it here."

Kibum looked away, "I don't know your situation so I can't tell you it'll get better or that if you wait it won't seem as bad. I do think you should think about it. If I had done it when I first saw this building things might be different...I'd have died differently. I'd have gone feeling different about myself."

"I lost a competition. My future was riding on it. Now I don’t have scholarships, which means I won’t be able to go to university. Not to mention how my father is taking it," Minho explained. "I’ve basically ruined everything my entire family has sacrificed for. I've just been burdening them with my selfish dreams instead of living normally."

He chuckled, "You must be the type that’s never had anything bad ever happen to you. Good looking kid with average grades, from a upper middle class family, good at sports, good at making friends, no big upsets until now so it feels like the world is over. It's not you could lose so much more if you live for it."

"Yeah,I guess," Minho glared, a little angry at how much of the story the pale boy had gotten right. "So what’s your story then huh?"

"It’s none of your fucking business." The Kibum hissed his defenses up. "You should leave. I have about twenty-five minutes before I’m dead so I’d like them to be peaceful."

"Why don't you want to say?" Minho asked, "Don't tell me it's something stupid like you hate your parents because they won't buy you something expensive."

"Fine, I’ll tell you. I've got nothing to lose from you knowing," Kibum sat, "My teacher molested me so I told my parents but they didn’t believe me. So he just kept doing it and then he raped me."

He chuckled bitterly words flooding out, “Because that’s how those things evolve right. The first time he had a knife at my throat and I was too scared to move. I thought he was going to kill me but he didn’t. Then it happened again but he didn’t have a knife. I tried to stop him this time but he just made it hurt way more in the end. When I got home my parents kept asking me what happened. I was pretty beat up and they were worried but I couldn’t speak. I thought that if I opened my mouth I’d just start screaming again. They found out because my dad kicked in the door and I was bleeding all over the bed. So then they took me to the hospital and pressed charges against him. It all spread around the school and he’s really well liked. People started saying I was sleeping with him to get good exam scores.”

That’s when the tears started, “Now everyone calls me a faggot whore even some of the other teachers. I’ve been threatened and beat up. Someone even sent some men to rape me and it would’ve happened if the foreign teacher hadn’t shown up and scared them off.” He wiped his eyes, “And last week my parents took a settlement. It was fucking huge too, apparently he comes from money. He won’t teach anymore but that’s it. He doesn’t go to prison or anything like that. No one knows he’s a rapist. They took it because the lawyer said there was no way we’d win in court because he thinks I’m a slut too.”

He turned to look at Minho, “Y-you know what’s the worst part. My parents, they can’t even look at me. They put all these brochures for schools in Europe and America in my room. That’s what the settlement money is going to go towards. And now I want to die happy?”

Minho suddenly felt like garbage. It felt like his future he’d worked his life for was crumbling before him but this boy has been feeling this way for months. Minho’s only endured one week and just assumed Kibum's reason was petty when Kibum assumed his was valid. Someone had literally ripped his present away from him. Minho at least had a chance at redeeming his future. Nothing could fix this boy’s past.

Then he pulled Kibum close and let him cry on his shoulder until he stopped. Minho stayed, holding him tightly.

"The elementary kids are gone by now," Kibum sniffled.

Minho didn’t say anything just held him tighter.

"Ok let me go."

But Minho couldn’t, he was too afraid thinking Kibum would jump if he released him. People like Kibum were beautiful and deserved more.

He shook his head, “No.”

"Please let me go." Kibum pleaded, "This is all I have left please. You were just about to
do it too."

Before Minho could respond the rooftop door opened revealing security guards and just like that he and Kibum were being held at a local police station for trespassing.

Minho held Kibum’s hand as they were scolded. A younger officer gave them both a soda as they waited for their parents. Minho’s parents weren’t able to be reached but Kibum’s mother showed up right away.

"They were on the rooftop of the building," the older officer stated, "Next time they should just do that somewhere else. There are plenty love hotels cheap enough for students."

"Love hotels?"

"They found them holding each other very tightly." The police shrugged, "The kids now a days."

"I’ll punish them. Thank you for being so lenient with them officer."

They allowed her to take them both which came as a great relief to Minho. They waited outside the mens restroom for Kibum when she spoke.

"Thank you for saving my son." She said suddenly. "I was almost to the building. I found his note and when the police called I thought…I thought they were going to tell me something awful. Thank you so much."

Minho looked away and said nothing as Kibum exited the restroom.

"Come along Minho I’ll give you a ride home." She said sternly, "You can explain yourselves in the car."

"What’s to explain?" Key shrugged, "We were just making out on the roof."

Minho bowed to her suddenly, “I know Kibum’s never told you about me but that’s because I asked him not to. I’m sorry for not meeting you under better circumstances.”

She frowned, "I don't mind so much that you hadn't told me about Minho, but loitering on a rooftop there has to be a better place for you to go."

Minho was thankful that she went along with it though they both knew that Kibum knew the real reason for her earlier distress. They had all decided to ignore that as though it hadn't happened and sit in the car comfortable in denial.

When they arrived at Minho's house he took Kibum's hand. "Can we talk for a quick minute?"

Kibum's mother smiled, "Ok, I get it. I was young too say goodbye."

Outside the car Kibum looked him confused. "What?"

"Can I have your number?"

"Why?"

"We just told your mom we're dating." Minho replied.

"She knows we're lying," Kibum remarked, "She just doesn't want to cause a scene."

"Well I played along so give me your number," Minho sighed.

Kibum huffed but took the phone inputting his number. Minho received the phone and quickly text the other.

"Save my number." He said before leaning over to quickly kiss the other. He turned from the stunned boy to his mother and bowed, "Thank you Mrs. Kim!" Another kiss to Kibum's cheek and a short hug, "Call me if you feel like going back to the rooftop or if you just want to talk, anything ok."

Minho was surprised when Kibum suddenly held him tightly. "You really mean it?"

"You haven't lost everything yet Kibum."

A/N: Hope it wasn't too bad a read. I have another story like this but I don't know if I'll post it. It's longer but also probably better than this one. Well, until next time.
