oh, yay! my father works as an electrician at the getty museum & he just came home with some leftover lunches that were meant for some band of french classical musicians or other. mine's vegetarian. (whenever there's an event that he's working on that includes refreshments or decoration, he sometimes brings home free food & stuff. one time he brought home some heavy glass vases of flowers… tulips, i think. we've got large artsy banners reused as tarp in the backyard.)

i saw der blaue engel. a professor falls into disrepute with a nightclub singer in thigh-highs (marlene dietrich). i heard it was an accurate depiction of german cabaret. i once saw the professor (emil jannings) play a silly drunken police officer who smooches one of his prisoners in das fidele gefängnis, an early silent film. very keystone kops. mitzi was a cheeky maid. cabaret wasn't too great a film, but bob fosse's choreography was snazzy as always & liza minelli was very chic, although her style was a little too 1920s for a 1930s story. nothing wrong with that, though. why didn't more blondes get unwaved bobs in the '20s? claudie blakley was very cute in the cat's meow.

this is pretty neat: alice in a deck of cards

femmes fatales, cabaret, cinema, flappers
