Quick Updates
My Arabic lessons are going pretty well. I have purchased a subscription to Rosetta Stone's online application. Very nice software and very instructional. I like that it teaches without doing any translating. It can make some of the grammar challenging but otherwise is pretty effective.
Work is going ok these days. Not too stressful which is nice. I need to find a job where I am doing something that I can be happier about than just it not being too stressful. I would have thought I would have figured out what I want to do when I grow up by now. It seems like the first step in any grand plans to do something else all start with "Finish your masters degree" though so I really ought to get on with that. On that note, why does math have to be so damn hard most of the time?
My Saturday gaming group is in the traditional self destruct/chaos ensues mode. One of the main quality players is looking at needing to move out of state in short order. Her participation was integral to a number of the larger and more interesting plot arcs I had planned. I need to find a high quality replacement player as of like yesterday. I am still having issues with one of the players just not really getting the theme and tone I am going for in the story. I am using American Gods as primary inspiration for how I wanted a lot of the stuff to feel. He seems to be drawing more from the comic book Thor for his Scion of Thor character. This does not mix well.
My Tuesday night gaming group is also on the rocks as the same player leaving for out of state was in both groups as well, and frankly that group was smaller and in more trouble than the Saturday group was in prior to her needing to move.
The online Mage game I play with knockabout continues to be fantastic if a bit infrequent. Hopefully we can both figure out how to improve that. My attachments to a number of the characters in the story are at least as intense as any I have had for characters in a novel.
If we were to play Mage with more frequency I probably wouldn't do this but I think I am going to join a 4th edition D&D game that will be playing on Fridays. I am pretty sure the Tuesday game is done and unlikely to be resurrected. I am not really all that enthused about the new game system and there are a lot of games I would rather play in, but I might as well give it a try and see how it goes.
I am supposed to meet with a friend S. tonight to figure out how to use my new mini-mixer to practice doing vocals for our jam sessions. I am a bit worried that when I finally hear how my voice sounds to other people it will result in me not only not wanting to sing for the band but also wanting not talk to people anymore. Who knows how that will go. Sadly during some house cleaning efforts this weekend I believe the power adapter for the mixer was misplaced and no one seems to know where it went. It looks like it has a particular plug on it that will not be easily replaced.
