Aceh

While I'm still in this part of the world, I'm going to head to Aceh (in about a week from now) to have a look at the reconstruction efforts there and make contact with people in the development world. Get some info for Appropedia, and hopefully get people and organizations using the site to collaborate and share their knowledge.

When in Nias, we met some interesting people and heard about interesting projects, such as a briquette-making project to provide an alternative to kerosene stoves, carried out by a German and an Indonesian university. But they'd never heard of Amy Smith and the work she's done with briquette-making. I'm sure there's a lot of very interesting stuff going on, where people are just not connected to each other, and people's work is duplicated. That's where Appropedia has the potential to transform things.

If you know anyone (inidividuals or organizations) in Aceh that I should contact, let me know. Particularly anyone working with appropriate techology, bottom-up development and/or subsidy-free approaches to development.
