I come across something on one of my friend's pages and it irritates me to no end. If you are on her list then you may have seen the comment. I won't drag specific names because it doesn't matter. It's the action that irritates me and I’ve heard of similar instances before

I agree with your theory; the "haha totally joking" thing reads as backpedaling to me, and also kind of fits in with her perceived 'age group' (no idea how old she really is, just where her behavior slotted her back when I was reading her stuff).

I feel like there's a whole other circle out there that sort of aims for the Pretty Pretty Princess thing, but with an element of one-upmanship that I just don't see with a lot of my LJ friends and bloggers that I follow. My sewing (when it happens...*looks at dusty half abandoned projects sheepishly*) has kind of fallen into the reenactor category, but I love watching costumers who do all different periods and make beautiful things that I never would venture, you know? And everyone I know on LJ and Blogger is so friendly about it...but that's not the case with the whole internet. Fortunately, I don't rub elbows with many of those folks very often, so it's usually easy to ignore. And, as with this situation, it's easy to spot when one of them crosses your path!

On the other hand, maybe she really was just joking. We can never really know, and it's hard to tell on the internet. I tend to be a cynic, though, and the whole thing is just very ORLY?? from where I'm sitting. ;)
