I can't even believe this. A
new law in Maine prohibits wine tastings to occur "where children might see them." I would say that if enforced to the letter, this effectively prohibits wine tastings across the board.
"Oh, but I only meant to target supermarkets and things, not small stores and wineries! We'll fix it next session!" cries the bill's Democratic sponsor. As if that makes things better.
If children witnessing the public consumption of wine is a serious issue, why not be consistent and ban the sale of alcoholic beverages in, you know, restaurants?
But we live in an age where people seem to believe that we should let the government control as many aspects of our lives as possible. We have the government we deserve, I suppose.
Personally, I think we should bring back old fashioned tarring and feathering.
