Last night just as I was about to go to bed, I heard sirens, which isn.t unusual for me as I live between two major streets, but this time I could hear the sirens winding down and stopping down towards Forest Ave. I looked out the window and noticed the sky had a very bright orange glow, and I could see smoke.
Just as I was getting my shoes on to take a walk down to the end of the street to see what was going on, my phone rang, and it was Lisa (who lives at 31 Pleasant Ave, 3 houses in) sounded rather excited and saying .Sprague you have to come down here, there.s a huge fire at the end of the street!. I told her I was already on my way out the door. So I grabbed my camera and ran down.
It ended up being the garage now being built on the abandoned used car lot on Forest Ave, right by the train tracks. Orange cinders were flying everywhere, and the sky lit up like lightning 3 times, accompanied by 3 very deep booms, as the transformers on the light poles went up. Half the neighborhood was out there watching it (I watched from the front lawn of the big white Methodist church on the corner). I took this picture.
And this morning, found
this article about it.
It was really hot standing there, but the worst part was that afterwards, the entire neighborhood smelled like a campground, and the fans in my windows blew the smoke into my apartment. It didn.t smell this morning though, which is good. I.d hate to have to clean my walls and do tons of laundry.
