So, I got home yesterday and found a box on the porch containing my new 7" Santoku. A short while later, the UPS man came, but couldn't find my package in his truck.
"The computer says it's in here, but I can't find it! It might be on another truck, in which case we'll deliver it tomorrow." What the heck? "But if I find it, I'll come back later tonight."
Well about 20 minutes later, the guy came back and gave me my knives. Guess he found them. Phew.
So, after taking all the pieces out and arranging them in the block, and finding a place for that mim-matched Shun Santoku, it dawned on me that I really wouldn't get a chance to use them at all this week.
I have the better part of 6 quarts of lamb stew left over, and would be eating out tonight and Thursday, probably having leftover stew tomorrow evening... I really wanted to cut something though!
Then I remembered that I had half a fennel bulb left over from a butterflied and stuffed pork tenderloin I'd made about two weeks ago, and figured that even if the fennel bulb was still good, I'd probably never use the remainer of it. So I diced it up with the Shun.
The Santoku made pretty quick work if it, and then my kitchen smelled like liquorice. Fun times.
