Well, I usually can't wait to go home every day, at least during the week. I like my job and all, but who doesn't like quitting time?
There's another reason today though: the mailman is bringing me good stuff.
Via UPS, a Wusthof Classic Ikon 8-Piece set (financed with Amazon rewards in large part, or I'd never have splurged that much), and seperately, THIS bad boy:
Good knives were one of the biggest thing my kitchen was lacking, and I figured it was a waste of time and money to just buy merely OK knives for the short-term. True, it was tempting to buy a much more budget-oriented set for now, and figuring I could ask for the really good stuff, God willing, on a wedding registry someday or something. But that didn't really make any sense to me. Why not just do it right once, and never ever have to buy kitchen knives ever again? I wouldn't be saving any money by buying cheaper ones now and more expensive ones down the road.
That Japanese Santoku looks pretty badass, doesn't it? :-)
I also picked up a 5-quart covered Calphalon Contemporary Non-Stick saute pan at HomeGoods on Saturday for the absurd price of $50! No visible blemishes whatsoever. I later saw the same exact piece on display at Williams-Sonoma for $190. Sweetness! I used it to brown the lamb meat yesterday and it was awesome, as one would expect from anything from that particular Calphalon line.
