Sorry there hasn't been much of an update; I've been working one job or another, so there's not much to report. Getting ready for Boy's party on Sunday. Do you know there's not a bakery around that does a Curious George cake? None of them had the stuff for it! Crazy. So I had to scalp a picture off the web so they could scan it and make one of those rice paper pictures to put on top. It's the best I could do, but the picture is cute and Boy likes it, so that's all that matters.
Also been working on my Christmas gifts. Each one takes about 4 hours to do. Good thing is, I have 5 out of 7 done. I might make one or two more than that. Then it's just a matter of ordering stuff and getting frames. Oh, and I need some fabric paint to work on some kids' gifts. And some books to buy. Then I have to figure out what to get Hubby. And my dad. Ideas?
I did some more work on the next Library Book, which is now titled, The Mirror of Yu-Huang. I wasn't getting into this one, but last night I hit on some things that just made me go 'Ah Ha!'. You ever have that? Like how to weave in some backstory hints without going into pages and pages of infodump. I figure, this is book three. If I had to re-hash the first two books, the thing would be super long and bore the heck out of everyone who read books 1 and 2. This way the people who did read them know what I'm talking about, and those that didn't will get just enough that they will seek the other books out. HA! I get it! I even figured out how to mention backstory of the series in a way that won't seem like 'HEY THIS IS INFORMATION'. It was rather brilliant, if I do say so myself.
So now this book is taking off, I think. Last night I couldn't remember what color someone's eyes are and went looking for the notebook I had all that written in, and I can't find it!?! Arg! It had little character sketches in it - eye color, birthdays, parent's names, etc... I looked everywhere. Sigh. I'll have to look again today.
I'm also working on my stuff for Philcon on Saturday. Hey, here's an idea... anyone have any YA or MG fantasy books that kids 'might have missed'? If I get a list together, I can print it out for the kids for the "What are you reading and why?" hour. My fanfic writing excercise, if the kids don't have any ideas, I'm using Little Red Riding Hood. If figure use something easy, since the program is only an hour long. We'll pick a character and make up a new story for him. Wouldn't you love to know about the Wolf? Or Granny? I mean, it's all Little Red, all the time in that story.
I think it'll be fun.
Later, taters. Ballad of a Shinigami calls me, so I must go and work on it. Interesting books. Strange, sort of, but interesting. I'm really learning a lot about Japanese culture too. Now, if only my next Library book was about a Japanese artifact instead of a Chinese one...(no, I'm not changing it either.)
