Day 02
Day 02. Favorite Austen man.
Not surprisingly, my favorite Austen hero is Mr. Darcy! There's something universally attractive about tall, handsome, brooding, very rich men. :) (Does Mr. Darcy really brood? I think yes, a little -- or at least his silence gives the effect of brooding, and that's what really counts!) In all seriousness, though, he is ultimately a very honorable, principled, and generous guy. Despite his superficial shyness and reserve, he is capable of passionate love, and he is willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of his beloved. He's also very intelligent and likes to read, which are both bonuses for me! As for his rudeness in the beginning of the novel, I don't mind it; while he is unquestionably proud, I also think he's socially awkward. He doesn't know how to make small talk, and I can definitely relate to that! In fact, I tend to prefer guys who are a little shy...it's hard for me to trust anyone who's too charming!
So yes, I'm a member of Team Darcy all the way! That said, almost all of Austen's heroes are pretty swoonworthy...Mr. Tilney (Northanger Abbey) and Captain Wentworth (Persuasion) are very close seconds!
