Does anyone else get REALLY TICKED OFF when people you think are intelligent - or who should be intelligent - use atrocious grammar? One of my pet peeves is when people say, "The thing is, is we did so-and-so."

Is is? Why do people say is is? I heard it today on NPR!! Aaarrgh! I love NPR, but that made my esteem for them wobble.

Ack! Don't get me started!! I used to live a block away from a little diner that had a huge sign all along the front of the store reading, "Taco's - Burger's - Hot Dog's" etc.

Yes! It's bad enough when it's in writing, but when someone makes those idiotic mistakes in speech, I just blow up.

I've never heard the 'is, is,' but the 'had went' drives me up the wall! Another pet peeve of mine is 'must of' instead of 'must have,' and the big one is the use of double negatives, specially in speech--they grate against my eardrums.

The 'is is' happens when people say, "The problem is... [insert dramatic pause here] is that blah blah." Watch out: 'is is' is everywhere! It really is. is. :D

Hate 'of' instead of 'have,' and don't give me no double negatives either!
