then came the darkness

Who saw this one coming? It is hard to believe remnants from a hurricane could affect places so far removed from the coastlines. But on Sunday, September 21st, hurricane force 1 winds from Ike swept through the state of Ohio and left most of the tri state area in the dark for days.

By the end of the first night - most of the homes and apartments around my apartment came back on. In fact, the building to the left and the homes to the right came back on. Our building, connected to the grid of the neighborhood behind didn't come on till the following Saturday.

My Dad and Sheri, my sister, and my friends Ben and Joy offered me shelter... the only drawback (and its a big one) were my hours... having to sleep during the day... "oh, yeah." I got that a lot. The Drawbridge also offered a free room till the power came back, like I really wanted to do that. :-P

I braved the cold showers at first, but by Wednesday - I took the offer.

It had been a while since I watched The Weather Channel before hitting the hay, I also enjoyed "Skunk Fu". I came back home Friday to check up on things, call family and friends, and grab another set of whites (if I needed to stay again).

saturday morning signs...

So Saturday morning came, and I decided to stay. However, when I came into my room to turn on the light - the light went out. I went to turn on another, and the tv - and nothing worked. I came down to get the keys to the breakers, nobody knew which keys they were... I figured I'd just go back home and brave another cold one. At the car, I decided to stay again. I went back to the front desk and got another room key, but when I went back up - the power still wouldn't work. Instead of making another trip to the front desk, I figured somebody up there told me to go home.

Again I yelped through a cold shower and went to bed. At 2:30p I woke up to a pleasant surprise with my clock flashing 12:32.

Later, I went through the remnants of my fridge and cleaned out a pool of mold that grown below the crisper that week. Other than throwing away a bunch of food, taking cold showers and not playing on the internet; I watched the news on Galveston, Houston, and Illinois... I have nothing to complain about.
