The tailor of a cat... is clearly insane.

Courtesy of quatrefoil, I bring you this fabulous Japanese website offering clothing for cats: The Tailor Of A Cat.It's not just the clothes that are hilarious (they allow you to dress your cat as Anne of Green Gables, for example); it's the quaintly fractured English descriptions ( Read more... )

Poor cats.

Somehow (but not being the owner of said species who am I to know?) I thought they came already dressed.

There is a woman at the top of our street who walks her cat on a leash. I thought that was weird.

Actually, walking one's cat doesn't seem such a bad idea, especially if the cat mostly lives in an apartment and doesn't get to go out much. I bet they don't generally adapt to a leash as quickly as dogs, though.

As a practiced translator of babelfish (it's how I learnt to read German for my PhD), I suspect the last quote is meant to be something along the lines of "I'm a mode which is becoming to a little girl". The use of the first person pronoun on the part of the cat garment is probably in the original.

I showed this to our cat. She walked off in disgust.

Besides, it hard enough to get her to wear a collar.

Most of the cats in their catalogue looked like they were doing it under duress; the instructions at top pretty much admit that cats won't enjoy playing dress-up.

You can get away with this sort of thing with dogs: they have little dignity (unless it's a wolfhound).

Cats already have style. Why would they need to dress up?

I remember, many years ago, but not so many that I didn't know better, helping a friend dress up her housemate's cat in doll's clothes. He was not a happy cat. He tried walking backwards to get out of them, and when we laughed at him, he went under the couch and sulked. My comment was: "I can go home, but you have to live in the same house as him. What happens when he visits sharp and pointy vengeance on you in the night?"
