Class, or not

In the UC system of schools, there are 3 types of professors; tenure track, tenured, and lecturer. Of course those professors who are in the tenure track or tenured are doing pretty well. However, there are a group of professors whose primary job is to teach courses, they do little to no research, and teach more than their share of courses. This is fine, except that their contract with the school has been in contentention for almost 2 years, the school dragging its feet during negotiations with the ATF union (the union all lecturers belong to).

So here's the deal, because of this, many of the lecturers are going to be on strike during the 14th and 15th of October (today and tomorrow).

I'm in the TA union. And our union has decided to respect the picket lines of the ATF union. That means not going to class, teaching any sections (if we have any), and encouraging others to do so as well.

So here's the deal; if I don't go to class, I will likely miss information that is important, but if I do, I will be crossing the picket lines of a fellow union. There is also the problem that the TA union has contract negotiations this spring, and if we don't hold strong for the ATF union, we may have the same problems as they are. What's a socially responsible student to do?
