So much has happened in a short span of two weeks (and two days :D). I've seen so many news faces that it's impossible to keep count. And I know for sure that the number of people I've met is far less than what it should be, as I've spent quite some portion of my time in my room. Despite that, I've met people from all over the world -- Kenya, Nepal, Japan, Australia, England, Germany, Singapore (4 already! Can you believe that? lol~), etc... That's one of the things I really love about university -- you get to make an incredibly diverse group of friends.
Frosh week was supposed to be about meeting new people, but I chose to skip many events in the later part of the week to spend my time with some friends from high school. One of those nights, we played cards into the wee hours of the morning. For some reason, a few of us got really high halfway through, and laughed hysterically over the silliest things. (*poke* ...5 seconds later... "You poked me!") I do believe it was the first time I laughed until I cried (before that, I used to think it was impossible... haha).
The night after that, we decided that playing cards during those late hours required too much thinking so instead, we borrowed Monolopy from a recreational facility at the university. One of our friends, who shared his place with someone else, offered to host us as his room was quite spacious in the absence of his roommate. So we settled ourselves and were well into our game when said roommate made his entrance... shirtless. Apparently he was dead drunk from a party, and had wandered into his neighbours' room by accident. He then proceeded to undress in their room, thinking that it was his own. The two girls living there were not impressed.
On the whole, frosh week was an interesting experience. As you've probably gathered from my previous entry, the whole "spirit of frosh week" with the loud music, parties, and profane chants was really not my thing, so I'm quite relieved that it's over. It was nice, however, to meet old friends again (ran into my best friends from junior high!!! =D) and, of course, to make some new ones.
I've met some upper-years in my building who love playing table-tennis, and we've hogged the ping-pong table in our basement for a couple of days now. They're really nice people, and one of them is teaching me many useful tips on the game. I'm really looking forward to improving my abilities and challenging Mr. D when I go back! (and avoid getting owned by my little cousin again... if possible ^^;)
There're also many people whom I've met at frosh activities, around campus, in class, during meals, and at work. By "work", I'm referring to the new job I've taken up at my residence's cafeteria. It mainly involves serving food to our students, so the work isn't too tiring, and the pay is excellent. =D One of the advantages of this job is that I get to meet many new people, especially the other staff members who work with me in our cafe and kitchen. It always pays off to get on friendly terms with those who feed you! Haha~
And, of course, the central part of university life -- classes. (Wow, do I sound like a nerd or what? That IS what my parents are paying these ridiculous tuition fees for though... >_<) So far, most of my professors have been amazing. Biology, as usual, has my full and undivided attention. In fact, my interest in the subject has only increased after this first week (and a day). It is also the only class in which I haven't dozed off... yet. ^^; Before I contaminate my good reputation any further, I should clarify that by "dozing off", I don't mean "fast asleep and snoring"... it's more like a periodic "spacing out" that usually shoves me back into consciousness before a minute is up. Organic Chemistry has also been enjoyable, as our prof is a fun and approchable guy (he's my favourite prof up to now, in fact. *feels guilty about falling asleep in his class*). Physics... well, the best teacher in the world can't make me like that subject. Psychology -- the textbook is hilarious; I'm enjoying it immensely. The class itself is way too crowded, but the prof is excellent. Calculus is the bummer that's my last class of the week, from 6pm to 9pm. How could I possibly stay awake?! Prof is nice enough, although he lacks enthusiasm, style, and a sense of humour.
...and I do believe that this has been the longest LJ entry I've ever written. Still many things I haven't talked about, but that shall suffice for now. Goodnight! =)
