Yuuuup, I'm in my university residence now. Someone's in the showers, so I'm waiting for him/her to be done before going (I prefer to go alone... just to be on the safe side, y'know ^^;) It's weird, living with so many strangers after being with my family for so many years. There're people around who have habits very different from mine (i.e. loud music, late nights, talking loudly, banging doors, etc) that will take some getting used to.
We learnt our cheers today. I've never heard so many vulgarities and innuendoes in one day. Almost every cheer involved the "f-word" in some form, and were designed to insult one or more of the following: the other houses in our residence, the other two buildings of our res, other residences (or colleges, as they're called here), and other faculties (more specifically, the engineers). Speaking of engineers, we met a group of them on our way back from our tour of downtown Toronto. They were purple from head to toe. Literally. Two of the guys were in purple shorts, and had purple paint covering every inch of their skin that was visible. So we "cheered" (= shouted insults) at each other as our group walked by. Didn't hear what they yelled in reply because our frosh leaders had really loud megaphones, so the only thing that resonated down the street were cries of, "Build a bridge and jump!", "Build yourself a girlfriend!" and "Half of you will fail!"
There were other equally sophisticated phrases designed for each college (eg. "Trin, Trin, your daddy got you in; Trin, Trin, your mom f***ed the dean") <-- which doesn't really rhyme... meh.
Anyway, it's getting late and I've still got textbook-shopping to do, so the main point is that this whole atmosphere of frosh week is... really not my thing, to say the least. The late hours, horrible music, inappropriate (imo) behaviour...... ugh. I'll be getting my books in the next few days, so that'll be a nice excuse to skip some of the more unpleasant activities. Heh ^^;
