If I were on mainland now, I would be reading the new Holic chapter instead of typing this...T_T

So, turns out the computer room was closed for 'maintenance of the system' for the rest of the week. (I.e., no internet for me since Wednesday -_-) I somehow get the idea they're still not finished, though. Might be the fact that I have a Japanese guy sitting at the computer next to me 'working on the system' RIGHT NOW. Anyway,

Holic
ch. 101 translation

p.1

Yumekai(Yume): "It really is a good 'dream'."

Yume: "I'm looking forward to breeding it (from now on)."

Yuuko(Yuu): "Since you're the one who's breeding it, "

Yuu: "I'm sure it will turn into a 'taiseimu' (大聖夢, taiseimu = holy dream) that can drive away any nightmare."

p.2

Yume: "You said that so nicely, I'm at a loss for words."

Yuu: "My, that's too bad."

Yume: "I got my hands on such a powerful dream. Today has been such a good day, I'll call it quits for today and go and drink(to this day) at the fox's oden shop."
(('drink' as 'in make a toast to this day'

Yume: "What about the two of you? Don't you want to come along?"

Yuu: "That's really a wonderful invitation, but I'm afraid the passage to this world is about to close (itself)."

p.3

Yume: "Oh! If you don't hurry you won't be able to go back, then."

Watanuki(Wata): "The fox's oden shop you were talking about...do you mean the one that's run by a father ad his son?"

Yume: "Oh, do you know them?"

Wata: "I've eaten at their place before and at the Hyakki yakou..."

Wata: "Oh! Here."

Wata: "Please give that to the oden seller's son. Tell him it's a thank you for helping me at the Hyakki yakou."

p.4

Yume: "A human is thanking a fox?"

Wata: "So you think this wouldn't make a good present?"

Yume: "I see. So the owner of a rare kichimu(吉夢 good/fortunate dream) is also the owner of a rare heart."

Wata: "? ?"

p.5

Yume: "Consider it taken care of. I'll give it to the oden fox's son, don't worry."

Wata: "Uh, yes."

p.6

Yume: "Farewell, then!"

Wata: "Did I say something weird?"

Yuu: "He was praising you."

Wata: "For what?"

Yuu: *chuckle*

p.7

Yuu: "Let's go back to our world."

Wata: "Don't tell me I have to pass between that pole and the wall again!"

Yuu: "Nope. This time we're passing through here."

Wata: "Impossible!!"

p.8

Wata: "Man, I really went through something awful today! I mean, not even a cat could pass through there!"

Wata: "Not to say that Yuuko-san took away three of the balloons. Well, (I've got to admit) she was the one who did all the bargaining (after all)."

p.9

Wata: "Haaaahhh, I'm so exhausted. And Yuuko-san wants me to make breakfast for her...I'll just go to sleep..."

*blink*

p.10

Wata: "Doumeki! What are you doing here?!"

Wata: "No...."

p.11

Wata: "Doumeki's grandfather....?"

p.12

Grandfather(soufu): "I wonder, do you think Shizuka is difficult [to deal with]?"

Wata: "Shizuka? Oh, Doumeki's first name..."

Wata: "Difficult...? If anything I'd say I can't make sense of him."

Wata: "The first time we met we got into a big fight and after that his attitude towards me
was still bad all the time."

Wata: "Still, in the middle of all of this we somehow ended up starting to get along with each other."

p.13

Wata: "This eye also..."

Soufu: "This is also something that he has chosen [to do]."

Wata: "But...I don't want anyone...to sacrifice themselves for me anymore."
((see notes at the bottom.

Soufu: "Shizuka is pretty strong. Because when he was a child..."
((strong as in 'can endure a lot'.

p.14

Wata: "?"

Wata: "Ehhhhhhhh?!"

*pacchin*

-----------------------------------------

Notes:

p.2
The Yumekai actually says he wants to "close his shop" for that day.

p.3
Hyakki yakou = where Yuuko sent Doumeki and Watanuki at the beginning of volume 6. I don't know if they translated it in the official translation so I just left it as it is.

p.4
Two words: 'rare heart'. This just sounds wrong XO. But I'm too lazy to come up with something that sounds better...

p.13
'This is also something that he has chosen.' Again,I don't know the official translation so I just wanted to remark that the wording is exactly the same as in volume 6 when Watanuki asked Doumeki if he shot the woman because she wasn't human and Doumeki replies he just "chose/ made a decision".

What Watanuki actually says is "demo...dareka ga ore no tame ni torikaeshi no tsukanai koto ni naru no ha ...mou iya nandesu". He doesn't want to "have something happen to anyone(because of him) that can't be reversed anymore" /anybody to "get into a condition that can't be changed anymore" etc. Hence I translated "sacrifice themselves" for Watanuki, because, really. That's what it's saying. And yes, this can very well refer to both, his parents and Doumeki.

p.14
So, we have a big 'pacchin' sound closing this chapter. Now, I hate translating sfx but since that one seems important I'll give it a try. The 'pacchin' sound is either
1) one of the balloons bursting
2) the sound of Watanuki blinking/ suddenly opening his eyes
3) a bright light being switched on (I think 'pacchin' would be the sound effect for one of those ceiling lights you switch on by pulling a string.).

Personally I think it's 1). But that would mean we only get one more chance(?) to see Osoufusama ;_;... given that Watanuki'll be the one using the last balloon.

----------------------------

Thoughts:

I'm sure you already know this chapter is not the thing you should read if you wanna stop being a fangirl...o_O. So I'll stop the fangirl talk thing and write what I thought might be on the picture(?).
From what I see most people had similar ideas so this might not be new.

1) Something really scary. (Like Doumeki being a ghost.) But I gave up on that idea since I just can't see that being true. And I decided Watanuki's expression looks more like 'wtf?!' than 'terrified' ^^.

2) Little Doumeki in girls clothes. I'm sure a lot of you are wondering about the "dressed like a girl" thing. But it actually has a reason. Have you ever wondered about Doumeki having a 'girls name'? Doumeki's first name is "Shizuka" written with the kanji for 'silent, quiet'(静). But when used as a boys name that kanji is usually read "Sei" (静, when used in names can be read 'shizuka' or 'sei').

Now, the most common thing you hear about boys having girls names in Japan is that those boys used to be very weak babies and were given girls' names (raised like girls in some cases) to grow (up to be) strong.

This has always sounded weird to me so I did some research and found something that makes a lot more sense in my opinion. According to my research, in ancient Japan people believed demons would come to their houses and try to wipe out whole families. As the son used to be the heir in those times, the demons would go for male children to make sure they couldn't continue the family line. Thus, to protect their sons parents would make their male children wear girls clothes from ages five to ten to protect them from those demons.

I doubt that this applies to Doumeki (^^) but that certainly brought some light into the 'boys with girls names' things for me.

3) Something totally different (................I need this week's Yanmaga ;_;!!!!!)

Holic anime news:

According to some Japanese sites the first episode will have original scenes (like the scene with the girls in school uniform you could see in Yanmaga) and the second episode will feature both Himawari and Doumeki. Also, there is gonna be an episode at the beach in 'summer' ('summer time' in the anime, I suppose). I think there was more, but this is all I can remember.
