A man and a woman are sitting on a bench in a park. Some children are playing happily around them, completely ignoring their existence. The woman gives a disbelief look to the man next to her, while the man only gives her a warm smile.
“You really ask me to go on a date with you?” asked her while shaking her head, as if the man has said something impossible.
The man nods, “yeah. So, you agree?” His smile is now turning into a grin. The woman lets out a loud huff sound from her mouth, then she looks around her, scrutinizing every single inch of the park.
“What are you looking for? One of the kids is gone?” asked the man confusedly.
The woman shifts her head to the man, giving the man a sharp look. “I’m looking for your friends.”
Now, the man looks even more confused, he frowns. “My friends?”
“Your friends you are making a bet with! You must have made a bet with your friends? Right? If I agree going out with you, then you’re gonna win!”
The man should have angry or at least upset with the woman’s accusation, but somehow he laughs instead. Really loud. “You have watched too much drama, miss.”
The woman crosses her arms and pouts her lips. “So, you’re saying that you really wanna go out with me? With a girl like me?”
The man’s laugh suddenly stops, and he looks at the woman with a serious face. “A girl like you?” he repeated the woman’s words. “I like you. That’s why I asked you to go on a date with me. Isn’t that supposed to be enough reason?”
“The woman stays quiet for while, only looking at the man without saying a word. She then turns her head, throwing her attention to the children playing around them. Some kids wave their hands to her, and she gladly waves back with a wide smile.
“Do you think the kids like you?” the man’s voice grab the woman’s attention back, making her looking at him once again, with knitted brows.
“I guess so.”
“Why?”
“Huh?”
“Why do you think the kids like you?” asked the man again. His lips curve upward as he watches how the woman next to her rolling her eyes, thinking about the question he just asked.
“I don’t know.” The woman shrugs, “maybe because they’re still innocent. I mean, they don’t judge me based on physical appearance only.” She casts her head down, looking at her hands that absentmindedly playing with the hem of her shirt. She doesn’t have any confidence when it comes to her physical appearance. Her body is quite big, bigger than average Korean women. She also has this round face, with a big glasses hanging on her nose. She always thinks she’s such an ugly woman.
“Will you believe if I say that I like you just like how the kids like you?”
The woman looks at the man, again with a disbelief look clearly on her face. “It’s impossible for an adult to like someone like kids do. Adults are too complicated. There are too many considerations. They’ll judge the family background, educational background, not to mention the appearance. Because adult will think about other people’s judgment,” answered the woman cynically.
“You know what? Sometimes you could just like someone, fall for someone without any reason and even without expecting anything in return.” The woman’s heart skips a beat when her eyes see how the man is staring at her softly.
“Just like how my dad fell in love with my appa,” continued the man.

The cold wind of winter met Yesung’s skin as soon as the small man got out of the music store where he was working at.
“Yesung-ssi,” a voice greeted him, along with a warm smile from a man who was standing in front of the store.
“You don’t bring any scarf?” asked the man with a worried tone when he saw Yesung only wore a long coat.
“I forgot to bring it,” answered Yesung shortly. He then swayed his legs, leaving the tall man who had been waiting for him since an hour ago.
“Wait!” The tall man run towards Yesung then stopped right in front of the petite man. He then took off his scarf and put the warm fabric around Yesung’s neck.
“It’s okay. You don’t need to give your scarf to me. You’ll feel cold,” Yesung refused politely, trying to give back the scarf to its owner.
“Naah, cold and me are good friends,” replied the tall man jokingly. “Ja~ done. Now, I’ll take you home. Let’s go.” The petite man sighed. Surely, there was no way he could argue the tall man. The two men then walked side by side without much talk - or it could be said that the small man didn’t talk too much while the tall man kept on talking about his day.
Siwon. Choi Siwon was the name of the tall guy walking beside Yesung. It’s been three months since the first time Yesung saw the man standing outside the music store when he had just finished his working hours. Yesung felt afraid when the tall and muscular man approached him for the very first time.
“I like you,” confessed Siwon, right after the said man introduce himself to Yesung.
Yesung studied the man’s face for a while. “I already have a child and I’m not interested in having any relationship,” said Yesung coldly before he walked away from Siwon.
“I’m gonna take you home,” said Siwon as he followed Yesung walking to the bus shelter near the store.
“You don’t need to.”
“I insist,” replied Siwon firmly. “Don’t worry, I won’t do anything bad. If you feel uncomfortable, I’m gonna put certain distance between us. So, you won’t feel disturbed.” Yesung sighed loudly but he didn’t say anything else. The small man was taking a glance to Siwon once in a while, making sure the tall man didn’t do anything suspicious. It was hard for Yesung to trust Siwon and believed that the said man didn’t have any bad intention towards him.
Yesung never told Siwon his real address. Every time Siwon took Yesung home, Yesung always stopped in front of a house few blocks away from his real place. Days turn into weeks, and Yesung started believing that Siwon was not a bad person. It was about five weeks later when Siwon finally took Yesung to his real house. Yet, Yesung never invited Siwon to come to his house. Siwon never asked Yesung why the small man took him to the wrong house before nor did he ask Yesung why it was hard for him to believe Siwon.

“How did your dad know about your appa?” asked the woman when the man is just about to continue his story.
Without feeling annoyed or disturbed, the man answered the question. “My dad saw appa in a park when I was playing with him. Dad said he was falling in love with appa at the very first sight.”
“Is that really possible?” interrupted the woman again. “Falling in love at the first sight?”
“My dad is the living proof,” said the man easily. “Dad saw appa again, in the music store where appa worked. At that time, he wanted to buy Eric Benett’s album. Right at the moment dad spotted appa, he knew exactly that appa was destined to be with him.”
The woman chuckled loudly, “I guess your dad can be a great romantic novel or drama writer.”
“Ah! My appa also said that! He once told dad to write their story and then publish it. It’s gonna be a super romantic story.” The man lets a small laugh.
Silent slowly starts taking space between both of the man and the woman. The man leans his back then closes his eyes, enjoying the ambience of the park through his ears. The children’s laugh around him sounds like a perfect symphony in his ears. Ah, perhaps because he is in love right now, so things will turn beautiful for him.
“Then what made your appa accepted your dad?” upon hearing the woman’s voice, the man opens his eyes then continue his story.

“I can’t have another child. As a male, I can only bear one child in my life. My womb isn't strong enough to carry another child,” said Yesung to Siwon. At the moment, Yesung and his son were eating out at a small sushi restaurant and, as usual, Siwon just came along with them.
“That’s not a problem. I’ve regarded Donghae as my own son,” replied Siwon while ruffling the kid’s head softly. The ten-year-old kid looked at the two adults sitting in his left and right side for a moment before he grabbed another piece of fish on the plate, didn’t really pay attention to whatever the adults were talking about.
“Do you.. like me because my look?” asked Yesung hesitantly. Seven months had passed since the very first time Siwon told Yesung about his feeling. And Yesung had constantly reject Siwon’s confession, saying that he was not interested in having boyfriend or getting married. Right now, raising Donghae was his only priority.
“Well.. you are indeed pretty,” complimented Siwon. “But your look is not the only thing that makes me attracted to you. I’ve told you many times about this, right? I just feel like you are really my soul mate.”
“I bet you’re going to change your mind once my appearance changes.”
Siwon frowned and throw a confused look to Yesung. “My feeling won’t change. Even if you change,” answered Siwon without any sign of hesitation.
Then a month passed. Siwon started to realize that Yesung was changing, physically. He looked a lot bigger that he used to. But as he promised, Siwon never changed the way he treated Yesung. His warm smile, soft gaze and sweet courtesy for Yesung had never changed.
“You do realize that I’m a lot fatter now, right?” said Yesung when they were on the bus heading to Yesung’s house.
“Eoh,” answered Siwon shortly, wasn’t really interested with the topic brought by Yesung.
“Are you still going to say that I’m pretty even with my bloated face and fats covering my whole body?” Siwon looked at Yesung sharply, making Yesung a little bit surprised. This was the first time Siwon throw that scary glance to him.
“So, you gain more weight in purpose? To test me? To see if I still going to stay with you even if you turn fat and ugly?” Yesung kept his mouth shut when Siwon shot the words cynically.
But a moment later Siwon’s gaze softened, “haven’t I told you? I never see you from you physical appearance. You will always look good in my eyes as long as your love to your son doesn’t change. You will always be perfect in my sight as long as you keep on working hard for your son. Your never ending affection for your son is what attracts me the most.”
Yesung turned his head away, trying to hide a tint of blush on his face. “But I don’t want to get married again.”
Siwon sighed loudly, “I don’t expect anything from you. I never force you to accept my feeling or to get married with me.”
“Then what do you want? There’s no way you do all these things but expect nothing.”
“I just want to see you every day. That’ll be enough, even if you don’t want to get married with me. It doesn’t matter for me. Just let me protect you, take care of you every day until I don’t have enough power left to do that.”
Yesung bit his bottom lip hardly, trying to hold the tears that were just about to burst out. Never once he imagined that he would meet someone like Siwon. Not after what had happened in his first marriage.

“Eventhough he’s a man, but my appa is really pretty. Lots of men like him,” said the man making the woman pouts her lips. Somehow she feels insulted since it sounds like the man is comparing his appa’s beauty to hers.
“But appa’s look brought bad things to him. My father, I mean, my biological father… he really loved appa to the point that he was being possessive and over jealous. He got angry whenever appa talked to another man or even woman. When he was jealous, he’s gonna hit appa.”
The man rolls one of his shirt’s sleeve, and the woman could see a long scar on his forearm. “My father did this,” he said. “He wanted to leave scar in appa’s face so no one will like him anymore. Thank God I could protect appa.”
The woman touches the scar then she moves her finger along the scar, making the man shudder due to the sudden contact. “What happened to your appa, then?” The woman couldn’t take away her glance from the scar, as if she is fascinated by it.
“We managed to run away from father and reported him to the police for domestic violence. He was then sentenced for 5 years. I was eight at that time.”
“Is that why your appa never wanted to get married again?”
“Yeah.. kind of. Appa always feel afraid and dubious when someone trying to get closer to him. Like, he was afraid being hurted again.”
“Then how could your dad get your appa’s yes?”

Nobody counted how many months had passed since the first time Siwon waiting for Yesung in front of the music store he was working at. Siwon himself had lost track on how many times he had done that.
“Don’t you feel tired doing this? Or get bored?” asked Yesung one evening. He had just finished his working hours and as usual Siwon had already waited for him then they would walk side by side to the bus shelter. Siwon always made sure that he’s not too close nor too far from Yesung.
Siwon gave his warm smile to Yesung. “Have you ever got bored taking care your son?”
“Never. Because I love my son.”
“So do I. I love you, and that’s why I never get bored or tired doing this for you.”
“But it’s different. My love to my son and your love to me. It couldn’t be the same,” argued Yesung.
“Really?”
“Of course it is! You know, I love my son because we are blood bounded. A love without expecting anything in return. But you-“
“Haven’t I told you?” cut Siwon fast. “I never expected anything from you. I love you because that’s the way it is supposed to be. We’re bound by destiny.”
Yesung stayed silent. Siwon came every night to the store, then made sure Yesung arrived at home safely. He did that every single night without absence even once. No matter it was a bright night or rainy day. Siwon would always be there - in his spot. Sometimes, Siwon even went out with Yesung and his son on the weekends.
“If… if I accepted you, will you still do this? Picking me up then walking me home?”
Siwon stopped his steps then shifted his head to look at Yesung, feeling surprised after hearing Yesung’s unexpected question. “I’ll keep on doing this until time forbids. It won’t change,” Siwon answered full of certainty.
For the very first time, Yesung offered his sweetest smile to Siwon. The petite man held Siwon’s hand, making the tall man stunned. It was their first skinship ever. Siwon always respected Yesung, so he never touched the small man. He knew exactly that he could not and should not expect anything else more than the chance of meeting Yesung every day.
But right now, right at the moment when Yesung’s milky skin met his, Siwon’s heart suddenly beat faster.
“Tell me when you are ready, and I’ll gladly take you as my husband.” Siwon looked at Yesung without saying anything. His mind turned blank and his tongue suddenly froze.
“B…but.. I wa- I’m just… just the owner of small shoe store,” said Siwon stuttering. “I can’t give you a luxurious life.”
Yesung laughed softly hearing Siwon’s sentence. “I don’t care about your wealth or your possession. As long as you promise me that you will work hard for my son, then it’ll be more than enough.”
“Our son,” corrected Siwon. “He might take his real father’s last name or your last name. But he will always be my son. Our Son.”
Tears began streaming down Yesung’s face. There’s no word that he could say to show how grateful he was right now. The man in front of him had shown more than enough about how love could be really simple. Yesung moved forward then circled his arms around Siwon’s waist. He hugged Siwon tightly, burying his face on Siwon’s chest while mumbling, “thank you,” for many times.
“No.. you shouldn’t say thank you at this kind of situation. I don’t need your thanks.” Siwon pushed Yesung a little bit, giving some space between them so he could see the man’s eyes directly. “I love you. That’s all you need to say.”
Yesung closed her eyes then took a deep breath. A moment later he opened his eyes then smiled really sweet. “I love you,” spelled Yesung carefully. Siwon cupped Yesung’s face then touch his lips onto Yesung’s red lips. It was a slow and sweet kiss as each of them were trying to pour all of their feelings into the kiss.

“Your dad really did that? He waited for your appa every day but never touched him even once?” asked the woman with widened eyes. “He really did that?” The man nods his head several times.
“You didn’t make up that story just to make me agree going out with you, right? So then you’ll win the bet with your friends,” added the woman, still doubting the man’s intention.
For the nth time the man laughs loudly, making some of the kids around them turn their heads and look at both of them quizzically. “You really should stop watching those dramas,” the man said between his still loud laugh.
The woman narrows her eyes then taps her chin with her finger. “Then how do you know about me? I mean, how could you suddenly ask me for a date? We have never even met before.”
“Don’t you know that you’re quite famous in this park?” The woman shakes her head and shrugs.
“Everyone who regularly comes to this park knows about you, Lee Shinae-ssi. You work in the orphanage few blocks from here, right? And every afternoon you’ll take the kids to play in this place.” The man smiles widely, feeling satisfied that he has just made the woman stunned for knowing quite a lot about her.
“So, you come here often?”
The man points out his finger to a couple who is sitting right across the pond. The woman narrows her eyes, and she could see that that couple are probably as old as her parents. One of them waves his hand towards them - or probably he is waving toward the man who has been sitting next to her for a quite long time.
“Are.. are they your dad and appa?” The woman turns her head to the man next to her.
“Nee.. I’ve told you, right? My dad met appa in a park, or I should say in this park. So, they like coming here just to reminiscence some old memories. Sometimes I come along with them. That’s how I see you.”
“So, you are not lying? The whole story about your dad is real?”
“I didn’t make up those things. I know it sounds crazy and impossible. But if you know my dad, you’ll see that he could do everything for my appa.”
The woman casts her head down then sighs, “you don’t mind with my condition? I mean.. you know. I’m not pretty or sexy or glamorous. I’m just….”
“I’ve watched you for quite long time, you know? I really like how carefree you are when you’re playing with the kids. Your smile is really pretty. Sometimes I think your smile is just as innocent as the kids.” The woman steals a glance to the man. She could see a smile plastered on his handsome face. “I don’t know how or when it starts. All I know is just… I’ve fallen in love with you.”
“Are you sure you’re not the biological son of your dad?”
“Why?”
“Because it seems like you’re just as cheesy as your dad!”
The man bursts into laughter instantly, “my appa also said about that sooo many times. He said I more look like my dad than my appa.”
The laugh suddenly stops and the man put his serious face. He looks at the woman deeply, trying to conceal his deepest feeling for the woman through his gaze. “So, we’re going on a date?”
“I guess we can talk about this date things later, after you told me your name.”
“Ah, right!” the man scratches his head awkwardly. How could he forget that important thing? He has spent almost an hour with the woman, talking about his parents but he hasn’t even mentioned his name yet.
“I’m Donghae. Choi Donghae.” Donghae then plays his eyebrows, “So, when are we gonna out for our first date?”
Shinae chuckles loudly, “I guess we can go out on Sunday.”
