Obviously very pleased with the result and thought Obama gave a great speech. The days leading up to the election were getting me a little anxious! He's a good talker but he has a heck of a lot of work ahead. It seems his approval can only go down from here. While inspirational speeches are charming it'll be more interesting to see how he handles things when he gets down to business.

Disappointed by California's vote in favour of banning gay marriage. I've heard a lot of the same arguments and they all seem to miss the mark. The definition of marriage is no more set in stone than anything else in the history of human civilisation. I wish I could understand why people feel so strongly about the status quo, when it hurts no-one to change and fills so many with joy. I simply cannot understand why some feel so threatened, so fearful. I can only begin to imagine the ethical questions society will face in my life time and hope I remember how I feel about this issue today when I have the chance to bring happiness to many with my vote in the future.

Cautiously optimistic as ever, I guess. I love my adopted country and I'm feeling happy for the USA today. I still believe it its ideals and I hope it continues to live up to them rather than slipping behind the rest of the world.
