I have to say, Mark and I have two of the Best Cats Ever. In the whole entire Universe. And everyone who meets them agrees that we are pretty darn lucky to have such awesome cats. They are SO loving and funny and cuddly-without-being-overly-needy. It's crazy to think back to when I first moved in to our Phoenix apartment with Mark and the cats...I was so apprehensive about living with my little guys. I didn't think they would like me. I was prejudiced against cats. Totally a dog person. Didn't want to deal with cat fur, cat whiskers, cat claws, cat attitudes.
Anyhow, even now- three years later, my heart still melts when they curl up with me, nuzzling into my neck with a deep purrrrr of complete and utter contentment. The little meows they let out when I've been too busy and too absorbed in my own thoughts to give them much attention.... the way they relax into my arms the moment I jerk back to the here and now and pick them up... the way they press their heads to my lips because they know a kiss is waiting... these little acts of trust and pure, unadulterated love....these are the Very Best Things about having furry family members.
And as much love as children can give, show, express, absorb... and as much as I want and wait to be a mother to human kids... children don't always show that kind of love to their parents. I know it, I accept it, I know the things I've said and thought and felt about my own parents... but I think it's important l to recognize the special, always-there and always-visible love that comes from our animal kids.
So, thank you OneTwo and ThreeFour. I love you guys.
