Long weekends, oh how I love you. Didn't have to work on Friday because it was
my brother's high school graduation. Go Kyle! (he's the one on the left)
And then Saturday was my first dress shopping experience. My mom and I just went to one store (because that's really all I can handle), and fortunately they only carry around 50 dresses total, and most of those weren't even ones I liked or would ever wear, so I only had to try on around 6 dresses. This was a good first experience, because it was just me, my mom, and the very helpful sales assistant. No crazy bunches of brides-to-be and their large entourages to deal with here.
Oh, and the store also has really cute normal clothes, too! Which I didn't know. So check out
Kelly's Closet if you're in Atlanta and need a cute outfit.
I had lunch with my mom at the
oh-so-good Alon's, and then Mark and I wandered around the Decatur Arts Festival. There was lots of really awesome artwork on display, plus live music, juggling, and lots and lots of food. Great place for people-watching, too!
Saturday evening we had dinner with our reiki masters at
Frank Ma's. Yummy as always. We've asked Cyndie to be the officiant at our wedding, so we discussed the ceremony, and they gave us some great ideas and advice. It's always so great talking to them because they're a real-life example of how to place an emphasis on purposeful, spiritual living without being an ungrounded, floaty, New Age-y crazy-head. Haha. Y'all know what I'm talking about.
And Sunday! Sunday....hmm...we woke up, lazed about a bit, and then went for a 4-miles-ish jog/walk/sprint/walk around the neighborhood. It was gorgeous out- breezy and sunny. And I've discovered masses of blackberries growing along the sidewalks, so every so often I'd reach out, grab one, and pop it in my mouth. They're so sweet and juicy... but Mark is scared to eat them. He thinks they might be dirty or toxic or something. I'm still alive, though. I think they're fine.
Sunday evening we headed over to the
Shakespeare Tavern to meet up with some of my high school friends, Rachel and Bethany, and see Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. I think that's the best play I've seen there yet. Really well done- funny and engaging. The play is so wordy that it could easily be a total, confusing bore without good direction and great actors. Oh, and how I love the Tavern. Any place I can eat, drink, and see some good theatre is a happy place for me!
And that brings us to Monday. Today! Memorial Day and yet another day off from work. No big plans today, which is good. We're meeting a photographer in a lil bit and I hope we like him and can have one more wedding-chore checked off the to-do list. We may or may not go see the new Indiana Jones movie. We also have a ton of movies we got in China to watch.
I finally started watching Season One of The Tudors this weekend and I looooooooove it! And! I bought it in Beijing for only $6.00. It's not the crappy bootleg, either. It comes in a real box and everything.
Okay, waaaaaay too long of a post. But...it's my journal and I'll ramble if I want to. Peace out.
