Title: Fan

Chapter 1

Ryo sat in the darkness, on a chair propped up in front of his bedroom window, looking out at the view of the neighborhood lights and the silhouettes of the people going on about their business. Night has fallen hours ago but he didn't bother turning on the lights. For now he wanted to bask in the darkness while staring blankly ahead. He sighed.

Funny how feelings could stir, change, and develop in such a short span of time. If he remembered well, it was exactly a week ago when she came into the Jimusho. She was a fan. Yes. Obviously, in this case, a Johnny fan. While it isn't usual to have fans when you're just an average, normal person, but then being a Johnny denotes you are far from being just a normal guy. Being a part of one of the biggest empires whose specialty is to train would-be stars and have successfully produced quite a number of  talents who are admired and idolized, it is perfectly normal to have fans. In fact, it would be incredulous not to have them.

And since he, Nishikido Ryo, is a member of not just one but two groups in Johnny's, he's had his own share of female admirers. A lot of them, actually. But back to her--the reason he was finding himself sitting alone and thinking more often that he usually does. He wonders what Johnny is up to this time. Everyone knows just how strict he is in imposing his 'no girlfriend' policy on every single one of them. Why think up of something like this all of a sudden? Surely Johnny knows there'd be feelings involved (at least on her part, since fans tend to get carried away with their emotions most of the time).

Ryo suddenly remembered that time one fan came up to him and asked him to marry her. It made everyone laugh, even though the girl looked really serious, clearly embarrassed and close to tears from being laughed at. He had been so used to to these kinds of things, and in time got so creative coming up with different ways on how to turn down such proposals without causing too much tears.

Now why is he stressing over her? That he didn't know yet. But first let's go back to why she was even there to begin with. Apparently, Johnny had this new idea, an experiment, a project--w/c involves one Johnny and his fan. In this case, the fan would be her. And her Johnny? Tegoshi Yuya. Yes, that girly guy he works with in NEWS. When Ryo first heard about it from the briefing days before the project's start, he was surprised, then disappointed, then a bit angry that she didn't choose him instead. There goes his ego acting up again. He basically reacts the same way every time someone else (esp w/in the two groups he's in) gets picked over him. And it's not as if he even cares. For all he knows she'd just turn out to be fat, ugly, and stalkerish and in the end he'll be glad she wasn't his fan after all.

And since this kind of 'experiment' would be aired on TV (in w/c he pictures out a lot of awkward, funny, embarrassing moments caught on camera, w/c made him feel a little sorry for Tegoshi being the unfortunate one who'd have to deal with all of it), he wonders what kind of girl would be willing (or stupid) enough to subject herself to such a high level of humiliation. And he further doubts her decency...and sanity. In the end, Ryo was relieved he wasn't in Tegoshi's shoes.

For the whole duration of the 'project' (the purpose of which is still not clear to Ryo), she is to stay in an apartment, with a translator to help her out with communicating. Yes, she's a gaijin. Someone who can't even converse in Japanese. Seriously! How did this girl even get to be a fan of a Johnny? And how the heck did Johnny go about choosing her from all the other fans? Ryo decided not to give it much further thought because it's giving him a headache. Ryo reminded himself that this was an experiment and Johnny was probably aiming for the exact setting.

Chapter 2

Because there was a possibility of future interactions with her, almost everyone in the Jimusho was notified the day she came, through sms w/c was sent by the people in charge of official information and the likes. Ryo was a bit annoyed at how much attention this project's getting. She's not even a celebrity for goodness' sake!

Later when he met Yamapi on his way inside the Jimusho, he asked if Yamapi got the same message. Yamapi nodded, even added a comment of "It's kinda exciting, ne?" before smiling. Ryo frowned. He should've known Yamapi wouldn't share the same sentiments, being the good-natured guy that he is. Ryo had the feeling this was also one of the reasons why Yamapi is the leader of NEWS.

Ryo was feeling grumpy. It was supposed to be a free day for NEWS but instead here they were gathered in one of the meeting rooms and being briefed again on the 'project'. Everyone was there except for the one involved in the project. Ryo was starting to get impatient when Tegoshi finally arrived, mumbling "Sorry" so many times he had lost count.

Ryo didn't understand why they needed to be there in person when they'd be hearing pretty much the same thing they did from the first briefing. Even if it annoyed him still, he would've preferred getting mails about the matter than being dragged here from the comfort of his warm bed. He eyed Tegoshi who was sitting two chairs away, with an odd expression on the latter's face. 'Something is up with him' Ryo thought. Ever since the announcement of the project, he hasn't hung out with Tegoshi that much. Maybe because he was still pissed about the whole thing.

Tegoshi has gotten quite popular around the Jimusho shortly after the first briefing, getting all kinds of  remarks from the juniors, sempais, even from random Jimusho employees who used to mind their own business. Everyone suddenly was friendly with Tegoshi. Ryo was positive that if he so much as hear one more "Good Luck!" or "Gambatte!" from anyone directed to Tegoshi, Ryo would explode.

Even Yamapi and Jin weren't as fun to hang out with these days. All their conversations would likely lead to the project and it goes on and on from there, Ryo's surprised his ears didn't bleed from all of it. One time while they were out eating, Jin had started the project talk again, Ryo suddenly stood up and left, unwilling to sit there and listen to the same conversation again. Aren't these guys tired of talking about it over and over? Well he is, so he's leaving.

"Oi--Nishikido! Where are you going?" Jin called out to him.

No answer. It left the two puzzled, momentarily forgetting their food. But it didn't last long before they picked up where they left off while ordering more barbecued meat. Just as Ryo had thought, it was unlikely that those to would clamber and run after him. He faintly heard Yamapi explain (Ryo thought he heard 'mood swings' being mentioned) to the baka he's been left with at the table. Yamapi was obviously used to Ryo's habit of walking out on people.

Finally, manager-san finished his long detailed speech. Ryo thought he had fallen asleep, waking up just in time to hear the end part of what the manager-san was saying. He looked around, surprised that everybody else hadn't drifted off like he did. Koyama looked attentive, the way he always does, occasionally interrupting to clarify some things and nods once he is answered accordingly. Beside Koyama, Shige was taking notes with the same fervor as when they're discussing an upcoming concert. 'What the hell is he taking notes for?' Ryo thought. 'Don't tell me he's actually thought up some ideas for the project? He knows he's not the one directly involved in this, right? The nerd, just can't live without his pen and paper.'

Ryo's eyes moved to Massu. He had a dreamy, glazed expression. He's probably wishing he's out eating somewhere instead of being here. Yamapi was Yamapi, sitting there with arms crossed over his chest, looking quite attentive. And Tegoshi. Was it just Ryo's imagination or does Tegoshi really look tired and stressed?

'Well, If I was in his position I'd probably be a little worried too. After all, the whole of Japan would get to watch me with this fan'. At this point, no one really knows what's gonna happen. Johnny's being the vaguest he has ever been. Ryo suddenly felt for the lab rats used for various medical tests and he had the urge to give Tegoshi a pep talk. But Tegoshi was gone with lightning speed as soon as the meeting ended.

'What's with all the rush?' Ryo wondered. It was so unlike Tegoshi to leave without saying goodbye for at least five times.

"Ryo-chan, you're not coming?" Ryo was jerked out of his thoughts when he heard Yamapi's voice. Looking around, he saw he was the only one left in the room and Yamapi was already outside the door, holding it open for him.

"You seemed to be absorbed in your thoughts just now. Funny, I didn't think you were really paying attention to what manager-san was saying earlier" Yamapi remarked on their way to the elevator but Ryo didn't hear the last of it because he stopped in his tracks when he overheard manager-san's voice talking to someone over the phone through the door of his office which was slightly ajar. Ryo's ears perked up when he heard a name of a place being mentioned. He silently inched closer, stopping just outside the door to hear more clearly but at that moment manager-san noticed him and went to close the door loudly after giving him a glare. Ryo walked off and found Yamapi still waiting for him outside the elevator.

"Where have you been? I was talking for a whole 5 minutes before I realized I was talking to the wall. I looked like an idiot" Yamapi pouted.

"Stop whining, Pi. And I didn't ask you to wait up for me, did I?" Ryo pointed out.

When they reached the lobby, Yamapi went straight to the parking lot after giving Ryo a half-hearted wave. Ryo wondered if Yamapi was still angry about what happened earlier.

'So childish' Ryo laughed as he walked to where his car was parked.

He hasn't gotten that far from from the Jimusho when his mind went back to what he overheard earlier. Could that be the place where Tegoshi's fan is staying? For all he knew it could just be an address to a pizza place or a night club but Ryo's curious nature has gotten the best of him. He slowly smiled, the kind which meant he is up to something. He suddenly had an idea. He stepped on the gas, now eager to reach his desired destination, which was not his house.
