His mouth on hers, her hands on his hair, their clothes on the floor. That’s all she can think about. She knows he’s saying something, she can see his mouth move. She thinks he’s trying to explain, she can feel it in the way his eyes try to catch hers. But that picture is all she can see - all she could see from the moment it beeped through her cell phone and into her heart, shattering it into pieces. He touches her face, and she wonders if he did that to her.
And that’s when she let the tears come.

She stands before him, her face stained with tears, her eyes empty of feelings. “Blair,” he pleads, “don’t leave”. He reaches out to touch her arm and she jerks away violently.
“You can’t erase what you did Chuck. We can’t pretend it never happened.”
“She never meant anything. No one else did.” He wishes he could take back all his mistakes, all her pain.
She meets his eyes then, and he thinks that that’s how he’ll always remember her: callously strong and painfully beautiful.
“Goodbye Chuck.” She walks away, never looking back. And he’s left with nothing - only a memory.

He nods politely at the conversation; drink in one hand, a doting girlfriend on the other. He fits right in with the crowd, and his grandfather gives him a quick sign of approval before moving away. He looks down at his girlfriend with her intelligent brown eyes and her full red lips and realise that she’s actually enjoying herself, talking to these people about Yale. She knows much more than he would ever care. And all of a sudden it’s too much, too much like everything he’s been running away from all his life.
But the past always catches up.
