You know, I usually spend some time with my classmates bitching about how stupid some people are, or how much of an asshole someone else is, but really? I've never had to actually call someone out as a bigot before. Usually because people tend to have the common sense to keep their freaking mouths shut, but apparently that becomes a moot point in an online discussion where someone is free to say that Thomas of Aquinas was an idiot, responsible for homophobia, for the "15 gazillion kidz" overpopulating the planet, and that having faith be a 'truth' of the universe is stupid, gets said in such an offensive way that a freaking atheist is defending the right to believe in a higher being.
Also, this same person, tried to sell the belief that women of the middle ages would be better off as widows because this would mean they'd no longer have to deal with an alcoholic husband who didn't help out financially, and she (the widow), would now be able to financially support herself and her kids. Which you know, I would have laughed at but not responded back, until she decided to fucking answer another student by saying that she based the fact that men were uncaring assholes on facts she heard from a professor saying that women and babies in third world countries died because the men controlled the money and wouldn't shell it out for proper medical care because they'd rather use it to get drunk and buy a whore. And you know what? This is what pissed me off the most, because my family comes from one of those fucking third world areas where medical care might as well have been an ocean away, because there were no cars around. No doctors, no clinics. There was one, ONE, fucking phone in the village until I was 7, and then there were two. Even now, most of the people with phones have a satellite phone because a landline is to expensive to install. My mom gave birth to three of her babies at home, with a midwife, not because it was the chic thing to do, but because there was no way my dad could have afforded to have taken her to a hospital. And 11 years later, after two of those babies died before their first month, and my mom was pregnant with me, my dad ended up having to borrow money from his family members, and leaving his job here in California to go back to Mexico, where he could afford the doctor's, to stay close to my mom, and be around to borrow a car and take her to the hospital when she went into labor.
So you know what, fuck all the waspy, first world inhabitants who think the third world is full of drunken, misogynistic, baby killing assholes.
