[Travel]: Prague for the first time!~

Mar 28, 2022 17:27

Hi!

I can finally add another country to my list: Czech Republic!

So many people have told me how beautiful Prague City is so I always wanted to go.

Finally I had a chance to!

And it's not that difficult to go there.
There's actually a direct (!!!) train from Munich to Prague and it only costs 37 € one way!
Of course, you could also go by car but with the current gasoline prices .........................

The train ride takes about 5:30 h, but usually there are delays, so we weren't under 6h for both train rides.
I just kept watching "Inventing Anna" on Netflix on my phone which I had downloaded beforehand.

And because I wasn't alone we also played games or just talked.

There will be 3 entries in total.
I didn't stay in Prague the entire time. As we had 3,5 days for sightseeing, I also left Prague for 2 daytrips and those I'll share in separate entries.

In this entry I'll just share the impressions from Prague.

The first day it was still overcast due to the Sahara dust which didn't only hit us in Bavaria, but they also struggled with it in Prague.

At least the trees were about to bloom.

Can't imagine how beautiful it must look there once it's in full bloom.
Haven't had any proper blooming experience since I have left Japan and I wasn't around for sakura season since 2015. :( ....

This is called the Eiffel Tower of Prague. It's much smaller, but you can go up there and enjoy the view.
As the Sahara dust was not providing a very good view and I was there before opening hours, I only took a photo from the outside.

My next stop was the Strahov Library in a monastery. Really impressive.
You aren't allowed to enter, you can only take photos from the outside and you have to pay extra to take photos!

In Prague they don't use Euro, but have Czeck koruna. But luckily we could pay pretty much everywhere by credit card.
The only time you needed coins was for toilets and luckily most of the time (at least in Prague) they took Euro as well for that.

Next I headed to Prague Castle, probably the main sightseeing spot.
Next to the entrance is probably one of the coolest Starbucks with such a great view over Prague!

Photos of Prague Castle will follow because I went there on another day again with better weather. ;)
Above you see the Golden Lane (also within the castle grounds) aka Alchemist Road.
Tiny cute colorful houses featuring souvenir shops and exhibitions of crafts and tools from a few centuries ago.

I really loved the colorful houses there!

There's so much to discover! :)

Then it was time to cross the river via the famous Charles' Bridge.

In the distance you can see the St. Vitus Cathedral which is within the Prague Castle grounds.

The bridge towers are also impressive. You can go up there for a fee to have a nice view. I didn't.
But we did go on a short boat tour on the river after this.

In the old town center there's this really impressive clock that does some tiny performance every full hour.

Randomly, there's also a John Lennon wall.... ^^;

There's also a really colorful synagogue.

On the other days we had better weather as you can see.
Above the old city center.

And the buildings in the city center are really cute!

Another impressive library inside of the Clementinum.

Statue of Franz Kafka's head. It's actually constantly moving! A bit creepy but fascinating at the same time.
There's also a Franz Kafka museum. I used to be a huge fan back in the days of his works!

There's also a really lovely grotta a bit away from the city center.

Next stop was Vyšehrad. Hrad means castle. There are only ruins left, e.g. the castle walls and from there you have a great view onto the city and the river.

Really perfect weather for awesome views!

On the castle grounds is also a church which you can see from far away as it's on the castle ground hill.

The inside of the church was quite impressive.
Needless to say that you had to pay an admission fee.

Next I walked to a park on the opposite side of Prague. Letna Park offers lovely views and there's a metronome (also called "time machine").

Last stop was Prague Castle again. The most impressive building there is the St. Vitus Cathedral.

The Cathedral is huge!

Inside the cathedral. Needless to say you have to pay entrance fees.

As the weather was so great his time, I decided to go up to the south tower from where you have awesome views!

The views from up there are stunning! Probably the best view over Prague you can get.

But even when you walk down from Prague Castle back to the city center you have lovely views.

And then you can cross the famous Charles' Bridge again if you want to. :)

There's also the so-called "dancing house". Pretty nice architecture. :D
