Of those, it's pretty much even between the Acer and the Lenovo, from a price/performance standpoint. With that in mind, I'd get the Lenovo. Even though it has a smaller HD, I think the better processor is worth the 6000 yen. (I store all my data on external HDs these days.)

The Lenovo processor is Core i5 520M 2.4GHz(1MB) The Acer processor is Core i5 430M 2.26GHz(512KB)
So the Lenovo is a bit faster and has a larger cache. Not a huge difference. In everyday use it might be hard to even notice it. Windows would start up/shut down faster, encoding/decoding video/audio files would go a little quicker, that sort of thing.
As far as the brands themselves go, I have an Acer laptop that I bought back in August 2006. It hasn't given me any problems. One gripe I have is that the factory install isn't a "clean" install. When you re-format the computer, it loads some of those useless Acer apps too. Then again, I've heard of other makers doing that too, so it isn't just an Acer problem.
Lenovo took over the ThinkPad series from IBM, and the ThinkPads were pretty famous for being durable and high quality. It seems that they're maintaining that reputation.

I just read test reports about the Sony and Acer, well not exactly the same models, but almost (in Germany they're not out yet .... actually nowhere outside of Japan) and both don't sound very good
( ... )
you already know my opinion i think (go with whichever you'll be most happy with), but here's a link to my opinion on Sony that i told someone else who was considering buying a VAIO. :] this is my current VAIO.
Thanks a lot :) You said the motherboard died. How long did you have the Sony then? I'm just comparing it to my Toshiba. It's not dead yet, just slow which might be a software mistake in the end (but I can't find it out, so .. screw it) and I've been using it for 5 years now, non-stop, every single day. I guess that can be considered as good quality then?!? ^-^;;
getting 5yrs of usage outta a laptop is good. i've never even gotten that outta a laptop.... but i work my laptops haaaaaaaaaaard lol.... also, you gotta keep in mind that just because a company made good laptops years ago doesnt mean they still do.... i dont know if Toshiba still makes long lasting laptops these days. i've never heard anything about Toshibas really...^^;;
the motherboard died less than a year and a half after having bought the laptop, but i bought it used... i dont know the laptop's age before i bought it, but it wasn't old. either way, i think the motherboard dying was a flluke or else i obviously wouldnt have trusted Sony enough to buy another VAIO. :P
Well, nobody really complained about Toshiba so far, but quite a lot of commenters here seem to have issues with Acer which makes me insecure again. I've read 2 test reports about Acer and Sony - not exactly the same models, but almost (in German) and both didn't sound that good. The Lenovo seems quite nice, but has only 2 USB spots which is not enough. Even my current Toshiba has 4!!!!! 2 is ridiculous! It's not a netbook, but a NOTEbook, Jesus (x__X) .... Maybe I should consider a custom ordered one where I can choose what I want - but that's probably too expensive, and I'm not an expert, so ... yah
I'm really freaking out about the idea having to go a gyneco in Japan if I decide to live there... I already hate it here so...
And as for the laptop, I have an ACER Aspire one and I'm really satisfied with it. I chose one with 8h battery because I use it to take notes at university. It's small so it does not have a disc drive but I don't really need it, I watch DVDs either on TV or my portable DVD player, so I prefer my laptop to be small, light but with a decent battery.
I know what you mean! When I was younger I only had female gynos, but here in Japan they don't seem to be very common and health is more important than being embarrassed, right? (x_X) ....
Glad to hear that but many other commenters here seem to have troubles with ther Acer, so I still can't decide ;o; .....
I would not recommend the Acer actually. My sister and I both have them (two different models). And we both have issues with them that can't even be fixed. I have speaker and keyboard-issues, and she's got problems with her computer dying on her the moment she tries to run more than two programs.
Would you mind telling me what kind of models you two have? Like .. is it an Aspire or what? And when did you buy them? Thanks for your comment. You don't seem to be the only ones that have problems with Acer laptops :/ Too bad ;o;
Oh sorry, I forgot mentionin gthat. xD I have the Acer Aspire 6930G and my sister's got the 5738ZG. ^^ I've had mine for about a year and a half, but my speaker-issues started immediatly (didn't bother to have it fixed since I read that it was more or less un-fixable), and my sister's had hers for less than a year. (She too started to have issues very early on)
Actually the Fujitsu is cheaper than the Sony XDDDD
Thanks, but we lost the game ;_____________; But WOAH what an exciting game it was! We just were really unlucky to lose Klose so early -_- I'm watching Japan's game right now :D
http://www.notebooksbilliger.de/fujitsu+lifebook+a530+core+i5 I want this one!!! It's perfect!!! And no annyoing glare display!!!!!!! But ... it's not available in japan -_- .... only in Germany!!!!! ;o; .... I might have to order it in Germany and then get it here in August when a family member comes visiting me ... but .. I don't know .. if it's broken, how about international warranty and service and stuff? Mooo~ I have a headache now x___X
Yaaah! But Japan played really well!! Good fight ^^

Isn't the Lenovo processor pretty much the same?
I don't care about internal storage so much either :)
