Apparently spatial grids in the brain take the form of triangles:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/01/100120131201.htm What are the triangles around which I am oriented? What are the apexes of my home, the bakery across the street, of Buenos Aires?
These "grid cells" are in an area of the brain hit early by Alzheimers, explaining why the senile easily get lost (god knows the extent of horrid simplifications associated with this conclusion, but anyway).
As someone who is absent minded most of the time, has difficulty navigating, and has spatial ... ineptitude ... this makes me wonder whether there is any way to strengthen my poor little grid cells. A grid cell boot camp, if you will.
