I truly loved this episode! It has taken me forever to write something up about it but I've finally finished. *whew* Now it's time to work on The Evil Queen. :)

They had the stop-start issue last season but it was much more noticeable this season because they shelved characters for much longer. Having SO MANY characters to serve that you forget rather important ones for several episodes at a time is a hint to have less characters. Mulan and Aurora at least make sense - they are in FTL present and we wouldn't expect to see them week to week.

No that is not her true self! Any more than Charming's true self is as a waffling, weak, man who always does the wrong thing. This is her cursed self which is a fun house mirror version of her real self. Take an positive interest in adventure and turn it into a negative interest in violence. Take a positive interest in Rumpel and turn into a negative interest by having her want his bad side. And so on. As for Gaston, even if this was Belle's true self, he isn't bad just pathetic and dim.

Yes, he fell for her because she was good and kind and believed in him! However, he has NO CHANCE of getting Belle back unless he can keep Lacey near. It's all about finding a way to get the kiss to work or some other method to work. And let's face it, if he had to watch her fool around with other men, the population would go down rather quickly. So it's a safety issue too. :)

If they have her do something evil then that could be a problem. So far she has just been seen enjoying some moderately bad things and liking Rumpel's bad reputation and nasty attitude towards others. Let's think back to Charming and what he did to his True Love! And to a woman he considers a good friend. If he can sleep well at night after the Mary Margaret&Kathryn debacle then I'm not worried about Belle.

I'd actually be curious to see Belle do something really bad. Why? Well, it would add another layer to her character and second, she'd understand what happened to Rumpel from the inside. How his desire to protect his son and be strong for him went so terribly wrong.

But I doubt she'll do anything too bad. :-)

You say that it's not Belle's true self, but in your review you said it's her true essence. What's the difference?

Lacey is not Belle's true self but a twisted version of her. Amnesia!Belle (like amnesia!David) is Belle but stripped of her memories so it's still really her with the same morality and basic personality. So Amnesia!Belle = true essence but Lacey not so much.
