Doctor Who -- A Good Man Goes to War

I am basically pleased with this episode and am looking forward to the second half of the season.

Heh. This finale so reminded me of RTD! EVERYTHING and EVERYONE was in it and there were 30 billion things going on and I think he even threw in a couple of kitchen sinks. The story itself also made about as much sense as RTD finales and there were soap opera elements! (the who's the daddy questioning and the whole River Song thing) There were even multiple gay agenda references! None of these things are bad since I like RTD Who but amusing nonetheless. :D

The title of this episode could be Ask And You Shall Receive. Just days ago I was complaining that we never see what Eleven is feeling and I wasn't even sure that he liked Amy anymore and then we get this episode! An episode which is just FULL of Eleven!angst and where we could see a least some of what is going on inside his head. I don't expect to ever see all of it (and we didn't with Ten either) but I'm happy to have this. \o/ I'm a Doctor-centric viewer so I NEED more Doctor in the mix and now we have some. *loves*

Other things I loved:

• The Doctor speaking baby. Moffat adores adding in these silly time lord abilities. Eleven chats with babies and headbutts to share his memories. Hee.

• Rory. Full stop. I love Rory. ♥ I especially love Rory all dressed up as a Roman and being badass with cybermen. He even did the Cool Guys Don't Look At Explosions trope! I have to admit that he wasn't very Roryish there (he seemed more himself when he was talking to River) but I'm willing accept that for the badass and the bit where, of course he's not himself!, Amy has been kidnapped.

• Cross species Victorian lesbians ♥ ♥ -- I want a whole show just with them! I want fic of their sexy crime fighting! (The gay clerics seemed a bit clumsily written in comparison. But I guess Moffat was listening when we lamented the end of the gay agenda? *g*)

SILURIAN: He’s rather attractive
JENNY: You do realize he’s a man, don’t you ma’am?
SILURIAN: Mammals, they look alike.
JENNY: Thank you!
SILURIAN: Was I being insensitive again dear? I dunno why you put up with me…

THEY EXCHANGE A CERTAIN LOOK

One thing I have mixed feelings about:

• River

Well, the internet figured it out! I thought it seemed too pat but I forgot that Moffat likes straight lines as much as anyone. He just writes longer straight lines than others.

But that's okay. Not EXCITING and GAME CHANGING but fine. As far as why I have the mixed feelings, it has to do with the Doctor basically growing a girl friend. Moffat has a thing about the Doctor imprinting on young girls who then become obsessed with him (often in the sexy way) once they are adults: Reinette, Amy, Lorna, and River. (It's getting so I'm beginning to think he has some sort of specific fetish.) It's a bit squidgy when we're talking about a young girl who meets him again as an adult and even more so when we're talking about a baby. A baby who is not only a baby but a baby who is part TIME LORD. Talk about writing the PERFECT mate for the Doctor!

The upshot is that I while still love River, I'm completely and totally off the River/Doctor ship, and I'm hoping things get rewritten so that the creepy power issues are gone AND so that Amy and Rory get their baby back. Yes, River grows up to be a BAMF and have many awesome adventures but I can't deal with a girl basically being created to be the Doctor's girlfriend.

Later I'll have more thoughts about what Moffat is doing with the Doctor and his story arc! Interesting places he is going there.
