I saw the series finale of Monk last night. It's not a show where I needed to see every episode and all too frequently I would need to leave the room or fast forward during an episode because of embarrassment squick. However, I did enjoy the show and I'll miss it. It's interested how much I became attached to Natalie considering that I was quite skeptical about her to begin with. By the time Sharona visited she was a bit of a shock to system.
As far as the finale goes, the long-lost child ending up working for me. I knew that there would be one and, since there was no way she cheated on him, that she would be the judge's child. But she was also Trudy's child and finding a Trudy analog healed him more than anything else could have. I think that it was the tears when they met that won me over. And he slept in the middle of the bed. A good ending all around.
Another show that I saw the end of recently was Life. (I know not that recently but I kept forgetting to write about it. I did immediately change my lj tag line though. I just adore that quote. SQUEE!) I had the last two episodes sitting on my DVR for many months dreading both having no more show to watch and how it might end. I really didn't want to be left hanging knowing that there was no more. It was better to leave the end a mystery than be annoyed. However, I was wrong to leave them for so long! No, of course not everything was tied up; they wanted a third season after all. But they managed to leave the characters in a good place AND pull out some awesomeness after meandering around for too much season 2. Oh, there were some story lines that were dropped and I wished could have been revisited but the core of the show was Crews and Reese and their endings made me happy. And really since they did want a third season, it would have been foolish to resolve too many threads.
I have to say that I LOVED how Crews killed Roman WITH HIS HAND while Roman sat there all pleased with himself. Crews is just that badass. He may want one, but he doesn't need any fucking gun. *flails* The perfect mixture of zen and violence. The man knows how to focus and 12 years in prison means that he's lost his fear.
Charlie Crews: Do you know how I got through twelve years of prison?
Roman Nevikov: Your Zen?
[cracks out laughing]
Charlie Crews: [Kills Roman with a precise karate chop to the throat] And that.
I'm only disappointed that the music is different on the DVDs. I adore the music on this show and was looking forward to watching the episodes again and noting down my favorite songs so that I could buy them.
And just to round out this post with the third series finale I've seen in the past couple of months, I'll add in some Flight of the Concords squee as well! I know that s1 gets most of the praise, but I'd say that they were about on a par. However, I can see where they need to recharge and figure out what new things they can say about the characters. This is not to say that I didn't love season 2 since it was quite awesome. It had it's high and low points just like the first season. The high points were: The New Cup (the best song of the entire series), Unnatural Love (damn evil Australians - hee), and New Zealand Town (hair gel addiction FTW!).
