Packing up with dl_greenarrow

Sep 13, 2009 22:32

Chloe wasn't exactly sure how it had happened but for some reason, in the matter of a few days, she had come back from Star City with a new job, had accepted Oliver's proposal to move into the Clocktower temporarily and was now in the process of packing her things ( Read more... )

"Got it," he answered with a smile, watching her head back to the bedroom. Shaking his head a little, he marveled at how different she was from her cousin. When Lois had lived here, the place had been a wreck. Chloe, was apparently more organized. He picked up a stack of mail off her desk and began to sort through it.

He frowned when he came across the unopened electric bill, dated two weeks ago. That was unexpected. Of course, she'd had a lot going on the last few weeks. That thought made him frown even more, his jaw tensing involuntarily.

He set the bill aside and combed through the first stack before reaching for the second. A single folded piece of paper slid off the desk and fluttered to the floor. He picked it up and unfolded it, pausing.

I want to let you in on a little secret, Clark. I'm not who you think I am.Immediately he knew this wasn't mail. This was personal. Something he had no business reading, and yet the words were so honest, so filled with meaning, he couldn't help but read on. She'd stripped her soul bare in ( ... )

Her closet was a huge mess, she had a pile of clothes she hadn't even looked at since she moved in and she was pretty sure half the stuff in the back of the surprisingly big closet was Lois' and she had never bothered to come pick it up after she moved back to Metropolis.

Chloe dug back, trying to pull things out so she could go through it more easily and then she found something she never expected to find in her or her cousin's closet, laughing, she picked up the pair of bright pink cowboy boots and started back towards the living room, something like that had to be shared.

When she walked into the living room, she realized Oliver wasn't moving, frowning slightly, she looked at his hand, a piece of paper that looked familiar but she didn't really recognize, squinting, she stepped closer, "what is that?"

Most people would have been startled by her sudden appearance. But Oliver had never been like most people. He remained silent, holding the paper out to her. When she took it, he watched her for a moment. "It fell out of a stack of papers," he said quietly, studying her with curious eyes.

Her eyes widened when she took the letter from him, recognizing it as soon as she took a better look at it, dropping the boots to the floor, she re-read the letter, she hadn't seen it in years, she didn't even know why she would have a copy of it anywhere.

He grinned, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "What is your color?" he asked curiously, picking up another stack of bills and flipping through them. "And for the record, I still vote we burn the boots."

"Mostly orange," She grinned at him, looking down at the boots again, "and as for burning, only if we do it outside." She smirked mischievously back at him.

He arched an eyebrow at her. "Did you really think I meant we'd burn boots inside your soon-to-be-former apartment?" he teased. "Orange, huh? I have it under good authority that A.C. has a thing for the color orange." He bit back a grin, not looking at her, just waiting for her response.

Chloe shook her head slowly, grinning, "I know, except he can't pull it off as well as I can." She teased then raised the boots again, "well, I guess this will be almost as good as burning one of Clark's plaid shirts."

Picking up a pile of clothes, Chloe threw it over her bed, that way she could work on it as she talked to him, "have you ever been to the only, lonely Italian restaurant in Smallville?"

"Can't say I've had the pleasure," he responded with a small smile, glancing at her over his shoulder, then neatly stacking the pile he'd just gone through into a cardboard box. "Is it any good?"

She started separating the clothes into two piles, folding them as she did, "yeah, it's not fancy or anything but everything is home made, it's nice, almost like eating Mrs. Kent's food."

He cocked his head to the side. "Then I guess it doesn't matter which one of us is done first." He smiled. "Sounds good to me."

He moved so he was standing right behind her. "Actually it was," he murmured, his lips close to her ear.

Chloe's eyes widened and she turned her face to look at him, their faces were inches apart and even though she felt her cheeks flush, she was determined to ignore it, this was a game, after all, "poker it is." She smirked, turning fully so she could look at him better, "just keep in mind that this was your last win of the night."

He met her eyes, faint smirk still lingering on his mouth. "I don't know. I kind of think we're both going to win tonight, Chloe." His voice was quiet, low.

Her eyes widened but she cleared her throat, not moving away as she watched her face, her mouth falling open slightly, "I guess we'll have to see how things... work out."

A grin tugged at his lips despite the fact that he was being completely serious when he said nothing would happen to her under his watch. "Our egos and our pride sometimes make simple things difficult," he said, leaning in and dropping his voice like he wes letting her in on a very important secret. He winked at her, amused by her attitude toward the whole subject.

He dropped a hand to rest on her shoulder. "But you should know I was serious about the other part."

Chloe looked at him for a long moment then nodded, cocking her head a little, "I wouldn't have joined the team if I didn't trust you, Oliver." She said sincerely, "and although I appreciate being watched over, don't be like Clark, I'm not completely helpless." She teased lightly.

He smirked a little. "Trust me. I know you're not, Sidekick. If I thought you were, I wouldn't have asked you to join the team in the first place." He shrugged a little. "And believe me, I'm nothing like Clark."

With a nod, she raised her eyebrows at him again, "I'm glad we agree on that." She didn't clarify which part of it exactly she agreed with. "You ready for dinner?"
