poem: Exodus

Jun 17, 2008 22:46

Begin the exodus from you, far away from you for now,

I shall never regret it; I’ve tasted the forbidden fruit,

That is your love, the sweetest of temptations.

The accursed serpent’s bite, ever swift and painful,

Started my dance of ecstasy until my Garden of Eden drowned

In the gray rains of despair; the paradise was crumbling around me and I cried.

Your love, I craved ever so much; it was mine no longer.

Once you became the apple of my eye, you changed,

Growing ever so distant; I could not keep up pace.

Out of ruined paradise, with heartrending protest, I was cast out

---- An angel with a fiery blade stands betwixt and between.

I dare not look back to the once-heavenly garden, where I first tasted the knowledge,

Where the first sin was made from my only bite, but the scars from my penalty will fade.

Begin my flight at day’s beginning; never shall I turn back to shadows,

For that forbidden fruit, I desire no more.
