I just finished this portrait this week for one of my co-workers at the hospital where I work. It was painted from a photograph which I've been trained to revile even though that's how I used to work all the time. I think having taken life drawing helps me understand the form better however, instead of being overly concerned about how exact the painting is to the photograph original. I tried to bear in mind Mary Cassatt's work, especially her paintings of children, in this piece. Hopefully my co-worker will enjoy the painting.
In other news, I'm pleased to announce that I have been offered advanced standing to study Illustration at the Ontario College of Art and Design in September. I'm very excited and proud of this achievement and I'm looking forward to keeping everyone posted about my work that comes out of the program.
