I'm not sure if this is one of those oh so rare examples of me being overly sensitive (yes, I said it, take a moment to be shocked and let's move on like nothing ever happened), but I ended up walking out of the Seer's guild meeting at the grove today because I found myself becoming increasingly disgusted by the topic of our conversation. I considered maybe saying something at the meeting itself then didn't because I was seemingly the only one who had a problem with where the conversation was going and I'm not on who believes in bringing everything to a grinding halt merely because I have issues, not when the door is right there and its so easy to just walk through it and be gone. However, because I feel some venting is necessary, I will discuss things here.
Will was reading an article in some magazine he had about divination practices in other faiths. One of the groups mentioned in this article was The Family. And because the particular divination that they did in front of the author of the article was described in some amount of detail it ended up being something we really got into talking about.
And that was the source of my disgust, that we were discussing these people as though they were a legitimate religious organization. They are no such thing not as far as I am concerned; they are a group of vile human beings that used religion as a means to justify child molestation and who completely and utterly destroyed the lives of just about every child they ever came into contact with. You may or may not remember, but they became media headliners just a few years back when a man who grew up as a member of their cult murdered one of the women who had repeatedly raped him when he was a boy and killed himself shortly thereafter. I followed that story when it broke because it had piqued my interest, and saw the interviews with a few of the surviving children, the ones who hadn't killed themselves or were lost to a life of drugs and prostitution, relating the horror stories of the constant sexual abuse they were subjected to.
And we're all sitting around here discussing the possibility that these assholes were channeling Jesus, receiving messages from Jesus? I can answer that very easily: no, they weren't. Because any deity that could be described as good in any sense of the word would never be standing behind a group like that, and would certainly not be advising them to duck interviews and avoid having to answer for the wrong they did and the lives they ruined. That shit came directly from their own hopefully guilt ridden minds. And if you honestly think there is a possibility otherwise, then that must not speak very highly for Jesus, now does it?
If we want to discuss divination practices from other faiths, I have no problem with that. In fact I think that would be a very good idea, I think that would be a very interesting exercise. But not them, not those people and not anyone like those people. Not groups whose beliefs and practices are that reprehensible (not to mention criminal). We should not be discussing groups like that, we should not spare them even a single thought, and we should not for even a second consider the spiritual validity of anything that they do.
